Default lowest price we will see?

what is the lowest price you guys think we will see on blu ray players go for in the future? i mean there has to be a cut off point where they will level off and be at for a while. i was thinking around the $200-$250 range. i think that is pretty affordable for the average consumer. what do you guys think?

I would buy a standalone at $200 to give my PS3 a rest . But I wont buy one until they go that low. Theres just no need seeing as how I have the PS3 now.

and to stay on topic. That sounds about where they'll level off for the lower end models. I can see the better ones remaining at maybe $450-500 in the future. Who knows! maybe in 6, 7, 8 years we can pick up cheap blu players at $34.99 haha

i hear ya. i dont know why all the ps3 owners thing standalones are expensive though, i mean the cheapest one is $399 and if you get the 80g its like $600. so i see not difference in spending that than on a standalone player. just my 2 cents i guess.

Standalones are getting cheaper, esspecially as of late, so the PS3 doesn't have the complete edge in that sense. In fact, some players have been obtainable for $299, one of which being a Sony, and the other being a Samsung (the latter of which I would avoid at all costs, as Samsung seems to be the worst out of all BD player maufacturers when it comes to updating their firmware).

However, you are a little off base on the PS3 prices. The 80gb model is currently $500, and the 40Gb model is $400. And Sony Style has been having an offer where if you sign up for their credit card, you can get a $100 credit back on the card with a qualifying purchase of $299 or more, and both PS3 models and the $299 Sony Blu-Ray player are all qualifying purchases, so you can save some cash that way.

However, at the end of the day, based on what's currently available, in my opinion the PS3 is the best option. Of the players out on the market, it is the most upgradable to be compiant with future specs and standard changes within the format, thus making it compatible with interactive features that most other current players will never be able to use.. Granted, the one big downfall of the PS3 is that it doesn't decode the sound as well as many other players, so I guess it boils down to which of these things is more important to the user at the end of the day.
