Default Releasing Transformers in HD DVD now is a mistake

Releasing it on Chrtistmas holiday period would have been wiser, as many people would have bought the HD DVD player + the movie then
Another dumb commercial move from HD DVD camp

Since the money came from Tosh

I think they were really banking on TF selling allot of players last week.
Didn't happen though.

So sorry

I couldn't disagree more. The transformers hype machine is still in full effect since it wasn't long ago that it was in Theatres. Transformers is one of the biggest titles on HD-DVD at the moment as well. Plus, since it's coming out before the holiday season, it won't be lost in the sea of other holiday releases. Releasing it early allows them to take advantage of the hype and also re-advertise later for the holidays.

It gets them good PR about sales before SM3 crushes. They needed that before the holidays and SM3 otherwise they'd have been toast.

After the holidays in Q1 2008, it will be too late for dud to have anything to celebrate.

I think the release on HD DVD at this time was a bad move. I understand they wanted to get it out ASAP, seeing as how the movie will still be fresh in everyone's mind. However, with that stated, if they had waited to release it until black friday, they would've been able to hype it all the way up to the BIGGEST shopping day of the year.

I think Paramount and Viacom have made some bad decisions this year. But I don't think this is one of them. They got the jump on all the other big summer blockbusters and like someone mentioned will push round 2 come Christmas.

If they didn't release it with the DVD then those HD-DVD sales would have been lower. A large number of people would have picked up the DVD and watched it so many times that the Christmas release would not have the same impact, IMHO.

You have to understand what they are doing. They released Transformers super early because they didn't want competition. That way they can claim their first week victory of the year.

If they release it against Spiderman, Ratatouille, Live Free Die Hard, Ocean's 13, Pirates, Potter.......sorry they decided the best chance they have to make a big splash was to release it against crap titles in mid Oct.

It will sale still but you missed the part where this is all an attempt to give HD a lift when it desperately needed it. If not this entire month would have averaged over 70% towards blu....

i think the timing was pretty good, build up some positive press going into the holiday sales period, borne will follow as the TF hype dies down, which will be another top seller on HDDVD. They could not leave the release too long as the movie buzz would of cooled off slightly.

Going by there sales numbers, i think they made a good choice.
