Default Direct TV owners...

Come September they will be adding 50+ new hd channels to there hd lineup ... make sure if you have a HDBOX you get or already have the BBC connected, you will NOT get the new channels if you dont have it. You should have had one of these included with your HD receiver but if you did not, you can get one for free from DTV, just call them and say b-band. You can also order one online make sure you know your account #

You can go online here http://directv.com/DTVAPP/global/con...setId=P4310204 and scroll down to the BB converter

It's tempting. I took down my dish and cancelled my DirecTV service a few months ago, put up an antenna and have been pulling HD broadcasts from the air onto a Tivo Series 3 DVR. I'm happy with it. I watch a lot less junk and my costs went down. That $50/month starts to add up. I had DirecTV for about four years. That's almost $2500 and I couldn't justify paying even a higher rate for HD. Of those 50 channels they're adding in HD, how many will air quality content?

And how much will the HD package cost with the new 50?

Or will it still be 10 bucks?

The $10 will stay the same for "HD access". So basically, if you pay the $10 for the HD's you get now, and you subscribe to the SD version of the channel already, you will get it in HD, no extra charges.

The channels are as follows directly off of DirecTV's website (I believe Cartoon Nothing is Cartoon Network):

A&E
National Geographic

Bravo
NFL Network

Cartoon Nothing
SciFi Channel

CNN
Speed

Food Network
TBS

Big Ten Network
The History Channel

HGTV
The Weather Channel

MTV
USA Network

Disney Channel
Versus HD

Toon Disney
TLC

ABC Family
Animal Planet

ESPNNEWS HD
The Science Channel

Starz E/W/ feeds
Discovery Channel

Starz Edge
The Tennis Channel

Starz Comedy
Showtime West

Starz Kids & Family
The Movie Channel

CNBC
Chiller

To keep my costs as low as possible, I subscribe to the Family Pack for $29.99, and then add HD Access for $10. I get every currently available HD station, and should get all of the new ones as well.

Come this October the "new" HD programming will require an upgrade to the newer 5 LNB dish and either the H20 receiver or it's DVR brother along with the BBC converter. The current HD programming will continue on without any needed upgrades until at least January of next year. Knowing DirecTV, I suspect that deadline will be pushed back several more times before there's an outright "HD cutoff" requiring the hardware upgrades.

Hardware costs are supposed to not cost the customer anything, or so I was told, but I think we all know better than that.

No word on programming costs changes. As of now, no. As of now, $10 a month should still get it all for you.

There's no cost for hardware or installation, unless you have special circumstances. I had them out here to install--but encountered problems which still need to be resolved.

I think you can expect as number of the HD channels to go to sports package stations.

I can't emphasize this enough: Make sure you have control over who DirecTV authorizes to do the work for you or you will have problems.

You're better off finding an authorized DirecTV person yourself locally and doing it through them.

The unresolved issue I mentioned has to do with the location of the satellite and access. Until better access can be arranged, they would not install the much larger and heavier (40 lbs) dish out of safety concerns for themselves -- understandably.

your so right we had the worst installers ever tried to run wires from the sat on the roof through the f*in windows cause they were to lazy to drill holes ... we almost stopped service right there. but they gave us a 300$ credit and an upgrade..

Default L'a'unch Anybody?

I have had that stupid Dtv HD package ($10/month) for so many years, its about damn time they get those satellite going, only been telling me their coming since 2004 I think.
I think they have given me the last 2 years of HD free though, so I cant complain about the cost to much, just the selection.

Did anybody watch the ILS launch of the latest one?
Heres the link:
