Hello guys, I am new to the forum and just found this site because a person from Youtube told me about it. I have been asked by many to review Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs 3D. While I am no expert on reviewing, I will give a short review the best I can for you guys.

You won't find this movie in stores, it is a Panasonic exclusive when you buy one of their 3D HDTV's. It is however out there in the wild being sold on Ebay for lots of money due to it being very rare and hard to find or traded for other 3D movies.

This movie does have a lossless 7.1 True HD soundtrack which sounds amazing unlike Monsters VS Aliens which lacked it.
Of course it has the 2D version as well which looks great but who cares about 2D when this disc is ALL about the 3D! AND YES it delivers an amazing 3D experience, one which I thought is better than any 3D movie I have seen in theaters. The image is crisp, colors are bright, black levels have a deep black, and the 3D is truly amazing! Objects are clear in 3D, you can even count fur on the animals in fine detail. My favorite scene is when Scrat (the little squirrel) is floating around in a bubble. The bubble really looks like it's floating right at you and you can grab it!
Some scenes have amazing depth and make you feel like you are in the movie and can explore.

If you have not seen this movie in 3D I highly suggest it, you won't be disapointed.

I actually have 2 copies and would be willing to sell one or trade someone for a new copy of Coraline. (Mine are Japanese copies however, cover is in Japanese but menus and audio are English) I can also probably get more copies of these if anyone is interested. Pretty easy to get here in Japan from auction sites. I know they are selling on Ebay for well over $100

If blu-ray is stuck at 50gb's and will never max out.. I am kinda curious as to why when I ripped Ice Age 3 Dawn of the Dinosaurs 3D to a USB HD it came out 78gb's.

Because your ripping software likely re-encoded it at a higher data rate.

ripping shouldn't be re-encoding, if you use anydvd hd.

I used Any DVD, by the way seems I posted that in the wrong section. Was supposed to be under a section talking about bluray size limits. Sorry

Thanks for the review Bravia. I saw this one in the theater on the first day it came out. I was surprised at how good it was, I had not seen any of the previous ones. Big mistake though, going to a movie like this on the first day, and during the summer. The theater was just packed with kids. Turned out all right though, actually. The kids were not all that disruptive.

Looking forward to seeing it on blu-ray 3D.

It's REALLY GOOD on 3D bluray, I have watched it a dozen times just amazed by the 3D effect.

Great review. Makes me really really want to see this release. Even though I think you overrate the movie. Fact is Pixar creates animated movies Fox Blue Sky creates cartoons and thats really all Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs is. It has nothing deep or important to say about anything its mostly just a series of cartoon gags and fun visuals. Not that the movie is bad in Pixar world I expect more from animation then just cartoonish fluff.

Woo Hoo! I tried telling those guys posting under the Coraline review when I asked to trade my Ice Age for Coraline that Ice Age looked amazing in 3D, but NO.. They said Coraline is the best and that no fool would make that trade because Coraline is a far superior movie. Well whos laughing now hehehe Now I bet people will wanna trade after reading that review. "Tried telling you guys this one is dang good"

No Coraline is still by far the better movie and the Blu-Ray features the superior audio presentation. Even if Ice Age 3 features a slightly better 3D presentation Id still easily rather have Coraline in my collection any day. Coraline is a dark beautiful animated movie about learning to appreciate an imperfect life. Ice Age Dawn of the Dinosaurs is a cartoon about colorful visuals and slapstick gags. I still would never recommend such a trade.

While I appreciate your 3D enthusiasm I wouldn't agree with this statement. Its very important for all 3D releases to include 2D versions for backwards compatibility and glasses-free playback that equal the quality of previous 2D only Blu-Ray versions. So I say the quality of the 2D version on the disc is very important and I wish more 3D reviewers would focus on the quality of 2D versions on the disc.

True, but all the 3D blu-rays that are out now already have a 2D version you can buy. I know when I buy a 3D blu-ray, I'm not buying it for the 2D version. It's all about the 3D for me. Though I can agree the extra 2D version on the disc is good to have. I probably will never watch it though.

As I understand it, the 2D version is just one of the 2 encodes that makes up in effect, the 3D film. And, if that is the case, the "quality" would be identical for both of the encodes. IMHO, it would be a terrible waste of data space to author an additional 2D encode when both the left and right eye encodes are there, accessible, and are benefiting from less compression by using the data real-estate.

Wow, I love reading these reviews, but at the same time I hate them. Just makes me that much more anxious to get the movies. But no, I'm not allowed.

I agree that the 3D movies should have good 2D versions for people that want it. It will make for greater sales. A lot of people that are thinking about getting 3D TVs down the road will buy them now if they can still watch in 2D. And that is good for the progress of 3D. But I'm like Bravia, I don't need the 2D version myself.
