I want to buy a new 40" tv. I want to know which is better to buy in the sense of PQ. The samsung LNT 4081 or Sony XBR4?

the samsung will have better PQ, it will have better blacks & better contrast because it has LED backlights.

on the con side, it is a new technology

You need to compare the two TV's yourself. The LED backlight technology is new and I have not seen any steller reviews yet on the first generation of sets.

The XBR4 is an excellent highly rated set.

Here is a review of the 46" XBR4:

Thanks for the info guys i think i will wait a year or so. In engadget and gizomodo announced lcd screens that are really thin. Like a samsung ,is less then one inch thick. Also wait for the price to go down and get a good deal.

your sig says you have the xbr2. personally i don't think its worth all that money to upgrade from what you already have. so i'd do what you said and just wait a while
