Default NOTLD on Blu-Ray?

Why didn't Starz release NoTLD on Blu-Ray? They released Dawn and Day, y not bother to release Night?

Pretty good, especially Dawn.

That is the first time I've seen that acronym. I had to open thread to see what you were talking about.

Really?? If you google "NoTLD" you get a ton of Night of the Living Dead results.

If I'm not mistaken, Night of the living dead is in public domain. Or, something like it.

Yeah, Wiki says:

Quote:
Night of the Living Dead lapsed into the public domain because the original theatrical distributor, the Walter Reade Organization, neglected to place a copyright notice on the prints. In 1968, United States copyright law required a proper notice for a work to maintain a copyright. Image Ten displayed such a notice on the title frames of the film beneath the original title, Night of the Flesh Eaters. The distributor removed the statement when it changed the title. According to George Romero, Walter Reade "ripped us off."
So basically, if you want, you can burn Notl... oops I mean NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD onto a DVD and sell it online.

Yeah, I think I read once that it's the most printed dvd. Meaning it has the most editions.

Just to stir the pot, I got very excited when I saw a thread title with "NoTLD" in it. I've known it for years, but I've liked horror movies for years and NoTLD is a favorite.

To the original poster, did you mean the '68 version or the '90 remake?

I meant the original version, even though I think the remake was pretty good.

To get it on track, it seems that Elite Entertainment may have done a decent release of it on DVD a few years back. There are actually several editions and many omit scenes or have very poor transfers. Would putting it on Blu-ray accomplish anything? I would be interested to know who even has masters that they could do a decent transfer from. The original aspect ratio (see, I didn't even say OAR) I think may have been 4:3, and I really don't think I would be into a Blu-ray that is fullscreen. There was a pretty good remake done a few years back that Universal released and also showed in HD on their cable channel, so we know that won't be on Blu anytime soon, but it lacked the intensity of the original black and white.

I'd like both myself, though the original much much more.

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD probably won't be on Blu Ray for years. Why? Because it's not going to be a moneymaker for any studio that releases it. There are a million public domain releases out there. The studios are going to release films that they know are going to make them some cold hard cash, not be supplanted by a PD (see how easy that was, MiamiLoco...or ML...and I didn't even bleed) release down the line.

If a studio doesn't own it, they're not going to funnel money into a Blu Ray edition that anyone else can re-release later. They're going to release films that they own exclusive rights to.

There's your answer.

"Night of the Living Dead", or NOTLD as we're calling it here, was restored for a DVD release a few years ago, but the film was such a low-budget production that I doubt a Blu-ray release would look much better than the DVD.

In the meantime, can I recommend:

CEOT3K (Close Encounters)
SM (Super Man)
C (Cars)

Yeah Elite had the best version. Anchor Bay's (now Starz) version on DVD wasn't that great, plus they had that anniversary edition where they shot new footage, lol

I'm not sure why release NFRTILORPSFRIO on Blu Ray at this point. Isn't the whole point of the latest releases to either produce marketable titles or demonstrate the impressive output of the format by releasing visually exciting films?

No offense to fans of the film out there (it's really creepy in the same way that CARNIVAL OF SOULS...i.e. COS...is) BUT:

NQRUTISOFJRU is not the type of movie that will make people choose the format and it's not very visually exciting. It's just a bunch of people with make-up on walking around like John Wayne and demolishing a farm house.

Hey, sign me up. That's really gonna stretch the limits of my big expensive TV and sound system.

Since NotLD is in B&W, how are other B&W movies on Blu-Ray?

Good Night and Good Luck looks pretty good on Blu-Ray. But that's a newer film, I can't imagine an old low budget film like Night of the Living Dead being that high of quality or even making good use of the Blu-Ray format.

I haven't seen any black & white titles on Blu-ray that I recall. I don't know about NoTlD, but I would love to see a good transfer/encoding of Treasure of the Sierra Madre.
