I already have the first release but hopefully they get this one restored properly.

1st release = Good

2nd release = Awful

3rd release = Perfect? (I hope so)

Even if it was just the 1st release and the extras ported over from the UHE, I would be happy. A new transfer unmanipulated would make me happier.

dont get your hopes up its likely to be the degrained waxy version as grain doesnt translate well in 3d conversions. Eg. they degrained Top Gun for the 3D conversion apparently

Top Gun has just the right amount of grain and the 3D is fantastic. In fact the 3D version looks better than the 2D version. The 2D version had been grain scrubbed.

If Predator uses the 2008 release with a new encode (not mpeg2) and on a BD50 instead of BD25, it will be the finest that Predator has ever looked.

They didn't degrain TG for conversion as Scott wanted the grain left as it was, that's why it has 'double' grain, one set of grain for each eye and is so odd looking.

Predator is not a proper conversion ala Jurassic, Titanic, TG etc anyways, it's just the JVC conversion that I Robot got, so grain really isn't an issue.

To me with the whole thing about the botched Blu-ray versions of Predator, I've held off on buying it.. With the 3D releases of any movies now I actually buy them now since you get the 3D and 2D versions for only $5 more on average..

If the new 2D version of Predator is properly done and the 3D version is really done right then I have the best of both worlds.. My eyes stink for 3D generally and when I compared the 2D and 3D of The Hobbit when it came to the theater release I had a lot harder time watching the 2D.

On my 55 inch Sony I purchased a cheapie pair of 3D glasses that was designed for the 24 inch PS3 and it was a pretty damn good result.. I'm waiting to see what the review is before I buy..

This is one of those things that you'll think is cool but only for about 10 minutes. Then you'll realise that you've wasted £100 on a plastic head. It's made even worse when other people see it and think it make you look like a geek and it acts like a woman repellant. I think I'll spend my money elsewhere.

ManlyMovie has a few positive reports to forward here most people seemed to have missed. First up is a report from CraveOnline: "The 3D looked great, and the transfer itself looked superior to the standard Blu-ray editions, more clear, less grain. Granted, they were showing it on a top of the line JVC 3D TV so the conditions were optimal. In the closeup of the Predator unmasked, I’ve got to believe his little tendrils poked out of the screen a little, but maybe that’s just because I wanted them to." Sounds good, but even better, seems they're going for the 'legit' 3D feeling of depth; "Most of the 3D scenes showing at the Predator booth followed the James Cameron “inward depth” rule rather than the sticky outty kind of 3D that I like. You can definitely see all the layers in the jungle. Highlight included the descent into the jungle, the attack on the guerilla camp and the night fight between Dutch (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and Predator. The night scenes looked particularly great for being low light and converted into full depth."

Then there's another postive report, from GamingShogun: "As far as the actual movie in 3D goes – thankfully, it wasn’t all just hype. Predator 3D is a very good 3D flick utilizing passive 3D technology which will not affect your eyes like active shutter systems. The effect was very crisp and clean, without any noticeable darkening of the image. For watching it for only a few minutes, I know I will be picking up a copy of the movie when it gets released later this year." This is encouraging stuff. The cherry on top is that the movie will supposedly at last also receive a full 2D HD remaster, supposedly to ship with the same disc/release.
