Default Finally got my own HDTV... and it's coming soon

hey all!

Mike here.

anyway, I live in the basement, and have been using an old 'tube-tv for a year now. we've got a 42 inch or whatever upstairs, 1080p and all, but since I'm still living at home that tv is used by my family. Now, I have my 'very own' set

the question is...........

WHAT SHOULD I WATCH FIRST?!?!!?!?!? (after calibration, of course!)

I probably already have an idea somewhere in my head as to what movie will be first, but I'd like your guys' and girls' help in selecting it. if nothing else, it's a fun thing to think about

the rule it is that it has to be a blu-ray, and i have to already own it (though I may view a Simpsons episode on dvd before a movie on blu, but anyway.....)

rather than make you guys go through my list of what i own, i'll just post a short list here. you can take a look and select one, if you wish -- this is all for fun, so only respond if you want to

here are the choices so far:

40 Year Old Virgin

Inception

T2

Dark Knight/DKR/Batman Begins (one of them, mind you)

Shaun of the Dead

Prometheus

Scott Pilgrim

Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Fincher)

South Park movie

I'm also considering Toy Story 1 or 3, an episode from my Futurama vol 5 blu or Simpsons season 13 blu, and maybe Grindhouse.

I know it's a pretty big selection, but really I just want to play something that can "help set the tone," and gear me up for less restricted things.

Personally, I'm leaning towards Virgin, because it might be a fun way to start this whole new part of my life (lmao )

anyway, hope that was all clear. looking forward to any input from you wonderful people

I would start with TDKR, Scott Pilgrim, or TGWTDT, but you have so many great choices, I don't think you can go wrong. Congrats on the tv!

If you want to enjoy your new TV, watch Prometheus. I found the PQ on that one stunning, and it's one of the top ones in my collection IMO

Whatever you pick, enjoy

Not South Park. It's barely an upgrade on blu ray if at all from the DVD. From those options, I'd say GWTDT. T2 as a close second =P

Ah the excitement of a new TV. I still remember the moment I plugged in my 1080P LED, the beauty of Burton's Alice In Wonderland on the screen. Brings a smile to my face.

Anyways, for the sheer beauty show off the TV factor, I would go

1. Prometheus
2. TGWTDT

TDKR! The IMAX scenes are probably the best looking thing you own. Plus I find it the most re-watchable of the Batman trilogy. I say go for it, and enjoy!

This is well covered in the display forums, just look for the type closest to the HDTV.
Here is a hot deal, OTA is free.

I've always been let down straight out of the box. I'd grab a few titles to calibrate (something Pixar and something with a lot of blacks), until you get something you like. If you have a calibration disc, even better.

Don't just throw in something you want to watch out of the box, or you'll be fiddling with the settings the entire time, rather than watching the movie.

Personally, I'd go for something new that you haven't watched yet. A new TV is a good opportunity to splurge on a new release.

TDK was the first thing I put on when I got my HDTV in Spring of 2009.

Yeah, it's off topic, but it has its own thread, and I'm sure it will fade into the background soon enough. I find that more on topic than opening a thread just to see something along the lines of...

"...the clerk then said they wouldn't PM, and then pulled down his pants and proceeded to..."

yes yes, i know it's covered, but this is where i feel ~comfortable~. anyway, antoine those are good tips. i'll probably use disk 1 of Life (i think that has a calibration section), and then take a look at some scenes from a movie i know well.

i also like your idea of splurging, although i don't have the resources for that seeing as i just got a tv however, the whole -unseen- aspect of a new movie is appealing. perhaps i can find some blu-ray lurking around of a movie i haven't seen yet.
