Default If HD -DVD survives 2008 (doubtful)...

... They will be obliterated in 2009 anyway.
So why the fight?

I mean, look at the movie lineup of 2009 from Blu-Ray exclusive studios:

Pixar Animation Studio:
John Carter of Mars.
A Sci-Fi pulp Epic/Space opera from the makers of Nemo and The Incredibles? Sign me up already!

Walt Disney Feature Animation:
Rapunzel
The Princess and the Frog.

Two classics of Fairy Tales, which we haven't seen in a long time from Disney.
No doubt big time familly winners.

Buena Vista:
Prince of Persia, Sands of time
Fragglerock, the movie
Can it get any better for kid/ familly movies ?

Sony Columbia:
Bond 22 (end of 08)
Spiderman 4 (possible, in talks)
Metal Gear Solid

successor to Escape from New York on top of Spidey ? Heck yeah !

And the best for the end (the nail in HD DVD's coffin), with the most awaited movies in years:

Fox:
24 <movie)
Magneto
Xmen Origins: Wolverine

but mostly the return of James Cameron with not one but -2- blockbusters!
Battle Angel Alita
and
Avatar

And if HD DVD Fans still hope that those companies will go neutral, think about it. Why would they?
Blu Ray outsells HD DVD by 2:1 or more, and even outsells it when the biggest (exclusive) and one of the 3 most anticipated movie of the year is released on the opposing format, with no real new releases against it?
Supporting both formats cost money (hence the desire of Paramount to adopt only one, the $150M bribe then deciding which they chose for a mere 18 months).

So .. let's get real and chose the format that can -actually- win instead of dragging this out, shall we?

Ellandyl, you're absolutely right. For the fans of DUD to think that any Blu-exclusive studio would go neutral at this point is sheer desperation. Why? Because the numbers just don't support it. More and more the clear winner is emerging, as more of the public adopts the better format.

Sure, there will be those that make their HD entry based on price, but very few. After all, how many are spending thousands of dollars on an HDTV and then basing their HD Video Player purchase on price? I was wary of DUD's low prices from the get-go, not to mention that there was only one manufacturer, and my caution has been proven to be wise. The war is over, and it's just going to take a couple of more battles for the other side to realize it and throw in the towel...

I am a huge Disney fan but none of those titles get me ready to purchase those titles. Meet the Robinsons was terrible not evenmyu kids liked it same for Ratatouille they saw it in teh theatre and didn't care for it.The last Animated movie out of the Disney stable the kids remotley cared for was Cars after that they have not liked any of them which is dissapointing for a Disney loving dad as I now have lost my biggest weapon in buying titles I used the kids as my reasoning but now I can't get their support so the wife has a lock down on movies being purchased LOL. I hated S3 so an S4 I won't even spend the money on in the theatre and I am not a gamer so MGS as a movie not so moving. I want Jurrasic Park 4 and Indy 4 and some other titles like that.

Erm. So what DIsney titles exactly are you a fan of?
Cause .. you are kinda dissing it before seeing it, same for SM4.
Do you know when Disney worked on a classic Grimms' style Fairy Tale last?
That was on Beauty and the Beast!
Cars? I won't discuss your kids taste, to each their own hehe. But Ratatouille was vastly better according to most critics and it's doing a killing across the globe right now.
As per Spielberg ... Neither format is seeing anything for now .. EXCEPT a little something called CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND :P
Me thinks if he is satisfied with the disc, and the Blu-Ray sales, we might see more when he's out of his Paramount venture (08' is my guess).

Unfortunatley I have not been a fan ofmany newer Disney titles Pirates 3 put me to sleep I loved the first the second was ok the 3rd was boring. As for animated titles they have not done much since the Lion King that I have really liked I was not a fan of the sequals including Cinderella3 and Little Mermaid 2 etc. I think they should have also stopped with the first Lilo and Stitch and not made the other 2 Leroy and Stitch was terrible. I am looking foreward to seeing the second installment of Narnia I have the origianl theatrical release from the BBC so I am hoping they do a good job on the next one the effects in teh first were decent for the most part but some were dissapointing you could really tell the green screen scenes I was dissapointed in some of it especially since they had the company that did LOTR effects working for them on the film. As I said we are bigtime Disney fans with well over 200 titles on DVD from Disney but their recent stuff has left little to be desired in teh animation department and I blame that mostly on Eisners doing thankfully he is gone and I hope Eiger can turn the ship around.

I think so.

OP, I never heard of the John Carter of Mars Pixar/Disney rumor. What is it?
I know that Walle is suppose to come out next year, are they going to have 2 releases in one year??

I believe that John Carter is not a rumor, it's actually a done deal. The speculation is that this will be Pixar's first foray into live-action.

What about HD-DVD's line-up for 2008? They have Hellboy 2, Mummy 3, Iron Man to name a few? They have plenty of other blockbusters from next summers line up as well if im not mistaken, what are we gonna do about that?

John Carter of Mars

http://www.erbzine.com/news/

I discovered this myself while checking big (projected) releases for '09. Was very pleasantly surprised by the number and scope of those on the BD side.
It is to be noted that some reports say that JCOM (supposedly a mix animation/live) will not be out until 2012, which seem a bit far off for me, and that we will see "1906" before that.

http://www.slashfilm.com/2007/10/07/...-mars-trilogy/

This would seem to confirm that JCOM will be farther in the futur, but that 2008 will be the year of WALL-E, by the writer/director of Nemo.

My original date of 2009 came from Imdb btw.
