Default Unofficial "Help me pick a Blu-ray" thread

With a lot of us with Christmas money and/or gift cards to spend and tough decisions to make, I thought a thread to centralize the conversation and knowledge base would be a good idea. On a personal level, I got money myself and I'm frankly stumped.

25 dollars to spend and I am trying to decide between two Blu-rays right now - either The Jazz Singer or Birth of a Nation.

Couple of things to know going in - the reasoning behind the movies and what I am hoping to get out of the movies.

First, I've seen Jazz Singer, but not Nation, so I know partially what I am getting into. That being said, Nation's, er, reputation precedes it. So I know I will not be getting a movie that I will enjoy watching, but that is not entirely the point.

What I am attempting to do is build a library that reflects my interest in history, entertainment and culture. As my ownership list shows, I've made some strides in that department. This brings me to these two movies. Truth be told, I'm in the market for the extras almost as much as the movies. I want to learn more about the movies, the times, the people, the impacts they left behind on the industry.

So, it is these two and frankly, I cannot decide and I need some help. So, I turn to the forums, hope for some good advice and more importantly, hopefully provide a new thread where more people seeking movies for their libraries, whatever their reasons, can get similar help and advice.
