The point is replacing boring ass Audio Commentary with something more visual. On HD DVD, Dukes of Hazard use that fonction just like a Audio Commentary is it's pretty well done if you use to watch the movie with the audio commentary..

I would love to have picture in picture commentary. However, I don't need to be able to manipulate it like is possible on HD. If I start the movie with these options selected, why would I want to go back to the main feature?

I can see movie studios wanting this.
Marketing is always looking for a way to push more products, and like it or not features sell.

Pip is a important minor feature. It well be nice to turn on a PIP window of the director while listening to a director commentary. This entire PIP and BD-LIVE minor features have been blown out of proportions. Picture and sound quality with a wide movie selection will always be the most important features with most consumers.

So they can have a feature that they never used on their last hdtv, still not using on their current hdtv, and will never use on their next hdtv.

While I often watch deleted scenes, bloopers, alternate endings, I never watch the director commentary. I would never miss PIP.

The only reason I want bluray to have this feature is simply to say we have this feature.

I will never use it. Id rather watch another movie, or play games or watch Hockey, or pull my freakin eyes out than to listen to the director babble on about his creative genius.

Out of all of the movies that I have owned over the years, I have only used the commentary once! And that was on Lord of the Rings.

I don't care either way, seriously...

I don't care about web features, either...but, thats just me.

It definitely would be good to have visual pop ups (pip) to aid when watching the movie with the director's commentary on. I can see this being a great improvement. If we already had this functionality on Blu-ray and the HDDUD's didn't, we would be using it and bragging about how good it is.

But no worry, because as of the end of Oct, this coming Tues/Wed?, all new models must have this functionality, which means it is only a matter of time before we see it in new movie releases, possibly even this Christmas season releases. So if the HD DUD's say we can't do it, they're are wrong, and their second last argument legit argument is gone. Then the next thing will be "OK they have PiP, but they don't have internet access". Of course this is coming also, as part the plan of Profile releases ... It won't be that long before we see this functionality either, and then they will have '0' legit arguments for HDDUD and against Blu ...

The real flaw that matters in HDDUD specs is their Bandwidth for audio/video, and by the time they fix that, the war will be long over, and thus too little, too late. Sony was smart to incorporate the main necessary things first for best picture & audio quality of the actual movie, then worry about the extras.

I always thought Pip was more annoying than anything, practically useless. Didn't he just disappear a few seasons ago with Butters taking his place anyway?

why do we want to watch or hear someone speaking monotonously beside the picture ? we will fall asleep even if it is star wars or lord of the ring like someone is trying to hypotise you.

I don't want the director droning on and on about his decision making processes. I have never used the commentary feature. I am fine with it being there for the few people that will use it, but not if the picture or sound quality is ever compromised to make room for it, as I understand was the reason why Transformers didn't get lossless audio.

I personally almost never have even watched any of my favorite movies even with just the AUDIO commentary, so to have a little window with a dude/chick's face in it while I am watching a flick would annoy the hell out of me. I think PiP is really way overrated, the feature just does not seem that appealing to me.
