Default Food TV series (including documentaries)

Thought it might be a good idea to start a thread about food TV series, including documentaries and documentary series. Apologies if there is an existing thread (did do a thread search before starting this thread).

Started re-watching in the past week James Martin's American Adventure. It originally aired in the UK on ITV a few years ago. As some time had passed since I had first seen it, I decided to start re-watching it, after seeing UK TV channel Food Network were starting a repeat run of it (I believe the first showing on their channel).

I like my savoury food, but I do have a sweet tooth as well. James Martin's American Adventure begins on the West Coast in the Napa Valley. Re-watched the second edition earlier, which saw the chef travel to Santa Cruz.

Food shows started for me with some PBS documentaries like the ones listed below. I can pop those in and give them a watch just about any time. I also really liked the older 90s show Great Chefs of the World. Now TV is pretty saturated with cooking shows, but I do still like things like Carnival Eats

United Kingdom The Great British Bake Off

Bradsdadg, remember me mentioning to you a few weeks ago about something they made on the UK version of Bake Off, a dessert which looked like a brain? Watched this evening's/tonight's Series 4 edition (a repeat run on Food Network which ends tomorrow, with the fifth series being shown again from next Monday), the semi-final...and it was the one where that dessert was made. Didn't look pleasant, but I bet the dessert tasted delicious.

See I don't know if I could eat that. I get a little creeped out even at gummy candies that are brain, eyeball shaped etc. I suppose if it were cut up first, I would give it a try though

United Kingdom Celebrity Bake Off

With The Great British Bake Off, they air the series in the following order each year:

- the main series (in the autumn/fall)
- a Christmas and New Year's special (usually one edition has celebrities on it, with former contestants appearing on the other)
- and a series of celebrity specials for Stand Up to Cancer early in the year.

Starting this coming Sunday night on Channel Four is the first of five new The Great British Bake Off: Stand Up to Cancer celebrity specials. Among the celebrities on the first new special is David Schwimmer.

I remember on past celebrity specials, Richard Dreyfuss and Teri Hatcher appeared.

Meant to reply to this recently Bradsdadg. Sorry about that.

You could try it at a Hallowe'en party, as it would be fitting with the theme.

Reminds me of the time I met Richard Dreyfuss a couple years back. Used the word "esteemed" to describe him. He got a kick out of that!

Got a handful of editions left to watch from the repeat run (but the first time it's been shown on Food Network) of James Martin's American Adventure. The last one I watched (last night) saw the chef visit Avery Island in Louisiana. Soon, he'll be visiting New England, then ending his tour of the States on the East Coast.

I hope he does another series in the States, visiting states he hasn't been to before on his programmes, like Illinois, Oregon, Vermont and Washington (whenever I see a TV series filmed out in 'the sticks' (aka the countyside) in Washington, it instantly makes me think of Twin Peaks).

United Kingdom The Great British Bake Off (Comic Relief)

Noticed in the TV listings for next Monday daytime into early evening (1st May, Bank Holiday Monday) for Food Network, that they're repeating two series of The Great British Bake Off (Comic Relief). The mention of "Comic Relief" means that they must be celebrity specials from when Dame Mary Berry was one of the two judges during the BBC era.

I've been watching Top Chef for years. It airs on Bravo and Peacock in the U.S. Each season they're in a different city. This season is an All Stars version with contestants from international versions of Top Chef as well as the original American version. The challenges are always really good and I like the judges: Padma Lakshmi, Gail Simmons, and Tom Colicchio.

United Kingdom The Great British Bake Off (the regular version)

This year's series of The Great British Bake Off (the regular version with members of the public) should be starting on Channel 4 in two or three weeks time. Replacing Matt Lucas as co-host is Alison Hammond (presenting with returning Noel Fielding).

Update:

The new series of Bake Off (the fourteenth) starts next Tuesday night (26th September) at 8 pm - 9.30 pm. Based on what I've read so far about the new series, there will be some changes to the themed week format. But the first week will be as normal (Cake Week).

A solid, very good start to the new series of The Great British Bake Off this past Tuesday night. I partly watch it because of the occasional innuendo, which there was one classic example of in the first edition (Cake Week).

Tomorrow night's new edition (the second of ten in total) is Biscuits Week. Usually, one of my favourite themed weeks is the third edition (Bread Week). Another of my favourites is when they do savoury pies.

The bit of innuendo from last week, Dame Prue Leith (one of the two judges (the other being Paul Hollywood (who has been with the show since the beginning) didn't get the innuendo until the second time she said it.
