A disc comes in the box with the player which has official Toshiba firmware on it and makes the player region free.

I bought the BDX3200KY for my bedroom not long ago. To be honest for an extra $20-$30, I don't know why anyone wouldn't buy it over the BDX1200, as the BDX3200KY is just a much better player.

Unfortunately, the disc has been removed from newer stock of this player and the region switching feature disabled out of the box.

Fortunately, a link to the older region free firmware can be found over at AVForums which re-activates the feature.

No it hasn't been removed at all. The people who bought these players only to find the disc wasn't in the box bought them in January and Feburary. However in March Toshiba were shipping the discs again with the players. I know this to be a fact for 2 reasons, 1 is my brother works for one of Australia's biggest retailers and sell Toshiba products, and 2 both my brother and I purchased the BDX32000KY from his work in April which was from a batch that Toshiba delivered to them on the 19th of March. Personally, it's my opinion that Toshiba most likely run out of firmware discs over the January holiday period, and didn't get more made up until late Feburary early March, which would explain why some people were missing discs.

I have heard about stuttering playback issues, but that's it. I don't have the 1200, but i have the BDX3100 (picked up a second one today just in case ) and it's for the most part (99%) brilliant. The only issue I have had with mine, is the SD extras on the French Conan the Barbarian (1982) only played in the upper left corner of the screen, in a small window. Other SD (and HD) extras and movies have all played beautifully so far, and region switching is a breeze. Toshiba 1200 stuttering playback google search HERE.

I got the BDX3200XY today from JB and it didn't come with a disc. I downloaded the firmware update, which I found on the AV forums, and installed it via USB.
However, I have encountered an issues. When I tried out my region A kick-Ass the image ratio was just constantly changing every split second (not sure if this is the stuttering that people encountered with the 1200 model). This also happens if I change between inputs on my Receiver. The same happened with my region free copy of the Matrix reloaded.
Once i get the image to load properly there is no problem afterwards (well I watched 30 mins just to make sure), so not sure whether to keep the player for now and claim back on the warranty if it persists.

Did anyone else experience anything similar with the 3200? Also I have two icons on the top black bar that I have no idea how to get rid of, I have pressed every button on the controller.

To the best of my knowledge the disc originally only come with stock sold by Harvey Norman, then a month or 2 later other retailers started to receive stock with the disc also. Maybe Harvey Norman are the only one's that once again have stock with the disc. All I know is the BDX3200KY players my brother and I purchased from HN in April were from a batch that Toshiba delivered on the 19th of march. Before purchasing the players, I even informing the proprietor of the electrical department that I had heard these players were no longer being shipped with the region free firmware disc, so he opened up all his stock that he received of the BDX3200KY's on the 19th of March to check, as many customers were interested in these players because of the region free capabilities, and each unit contained the disc.

Edit: I haven't had any problems with mine, and neither has my brother with his. If you need it, I can burn my disc and send it to you in the mail?

Thanks again Cevolution, I probably should have gone to HN.
Well here is a pic of the icon's stuck on the screen. I may take you up on the disc, but I will see how I go with mine first. So far this morning I played a movie and changed between inputs quickly a few times and it seems to be OK (fingers crossed it stay that way). What software version is your player on?
mine is BDP V25

EDIT: I have removed the icons

My Toshiba BDX3300 also displays those icons. I disabled the PIP in the settings, but they just won't go away. How is this fixed?
