With NOWTV (Sky), Netflix and LOVEFiLM available, it might be hard for physical format media to be competitive since the price and catalogue offer more than one would pay for one Blu-ray at a time.
Pros of the digital streaming services: - Wide variety - HD video/audio - Watch at any time - From £4.99 (LOVEFiLM), £5.99 (Netflix) to £8.99 (NOWTV) Cons of digital streaming services: - Not always does it have the film or show you desire to watch - The quality isn't lossless (if you're picky) - No extras (if anyone cares) - You'll never own the content, it's always rental For one Blu-ray, let's say it costs £5.99, you could get a lot more by signing up with Netflix or LOVEFiLM (+ NOWTV), not to mention that the first month is free of charge. Well, in some EU countries where there aren't services like these, their only options are limited to Blu-ray, or rental stores (oh, there's also those TV boxes which offer Video-On-Demand). As of now, I've tried Netflix and NOWTV, lastly I'll be giving LOVEFiLM a go in February and then decide which one to stick with. By the way, I prefer physical format but if the film/series/games aren't really worth it, then not worth buying it, imo. |
