Default 'Big ***, Fat, Stupid Lie by Paramount

HAHA She keeps calling HD DVD "HD-TV":

http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.co...at-stupid-lie/

Most of it's about Paramount's inflated numbers relating to Transformers, but one line at the bottom made my stomach sink:

"At first only Universal was exclusively HD-DVD, but then Paramount and DreamWorks Animation came onboard in mid-August. Will Warner be far behind?"

I hope to God she doesn't know something I don't.

She doesn't, she is obviously clueless on the format war.

wh at a poorly written article. yeah, like the women knows inside informatation when she probably couldn't even tell you the difference between hdtv, hd-tv, hd-dvd, hd dvd, hv dvd. i beleived all of those terms werre used in the article, at least two are completly made up acronmyms.

A monkey can a break news story. Just because you "break a story" doesn't mean you have a clue.

I saw your name in the Insiders Thread, I am feeling ok about Warner. Also, New Line announced a whole bunch of stuff in the past two weeks for blu. New Line is owned by Warner.

I posted this same post on the insiders thread and Ill post it here:

It has been speculated (and mentioned by several insiders) that since the departure of Steve Nickerson that WB is actually leaning more blu now. In fact, I was also told that Nickerson left over his anger that WB rejected Toshiba's offer to go HD-DVD exclusive.

If any insider wants to debunk that statement, please do.
Im just telling you what I heard and am not claiming it to be true. Im just saying that I believe it.

I read that three times to make sure you didn't type, "HD VD" by mistake.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I might just start using that.

First time I read the article, while parsing over the way she wrote HD DVD I thought she wrote HiV VD.

Perhaps it's been changed; it now reads: "and everyone's wondering which way Warner will lean."

I don't understand why you guys are criticizing this article. She is giving a great amount of publicity to Paramount's distorted sales claims.

Look at the title of the article:

"Blu-ray/HD DVD: Which Hollywood Studio Is Accused Of 'Big Ass, Fat, Stupid Lie'?"

The article has been drastically edited since I first read it. She orginally roundaboutly implied that she thought Warner may not be far from going HD DVD exclusive. And she did call it HD-TV. She still has it wrong, though (HD DVD vs. HD-DVD, no dash).

Default 'Big ***, Fat, Stupid Lie by Paramount

An interesting article over at Deadline Hollywood Daily gives a little third party insight to the big question of those "record-breaking" Transformers HD-DVD numbers...

http://www.deadlinehollywooddaily.co...at-stupid-lie/

The numbers...

Transformers HD-DVD
Week Ending 10/21/07 = 89,871 Units (First Week sales as reported in VideoScan First Alert)
---
300 HD-DVD/DVD Combo Pack
Week Ending 8/5/07 = 56,191 Units (First Week sales as reported in VideoScan First Alert)
---
300 Blu-ray
Week Ending 8/5/07 = 107,351 Units (First Week sales as reported in VideoScan First Alert)

Per the article, Paramount is not disputing these sales numbers!

Transformers while a great HD-DVD seller, did not come close to 300 in Blu!

(Mods, this a second thread on the same article. Please merge if needed. Thanx)

89,871 actual sales for week 1 ... not very impressive after all the hype.

The defense of Paramount is that the numbers do not include "everything", and go on citing Netflix as a source, as well as Blockbuster.
Quote:
"What they're saying to you is factually correct that the top 3 accounts sold 74,000 units. No disputing that. The mistake they're making is they're underestimating the units sold by nontraditional retailers like Amazon.com, Netflix, and Blockbuster Online."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but since when does Netflix sell new releases ?
Also, I thought Amazon was included in the Nielsen numbers?
Blockbuster would account for the difference? The store who officially chose Blu Ray over HD DVD in their stores?

So yeah, people who guessed that 190.000 were actually numbers sent to retailers were probably right

Well, Walmart accounts for about 40% of all DVD sales in the US, so I can't see why that percentage wont stretch to HD media.
Of course, that increase in numbers would probably also stretch to Blu as well so it's neither here nor there for the overall fight between HD DVD and Blu-ray.
