I have never seen this but do have it recorded on my Sky box so I will have to watch it sometime soon.
I do like the Coen Brothers work.

I didn't think the story line was all that good. But the acting was some of the best I've seen.

James (or anyone) can you confirm grain structure and lack of significant digital tweaking. Given Universal's problematic history concerning these issues I'd like some confirmation of a filmic transfer before I pick it up.
Thanks

I can certainly confirm grain structure. The problem is that there is some edge enhancement so this grain structure is more prominent than necessary. Still, it's not butchered like The Big Lebowski blu ray.

The transfer on the release definitely looks filmic. I don't know if I'd call it very good, but it's definitely good. Judge for yourself:

Much, MUCH better than the DVD.

It was like seeing it again for the first time.

Thanks for the tips. I just watched the DVD for the first time in a long time and was surprised how bad the picture was. It's my favorite Coen brothers film and one of my top ten films period. I can't see any release date here in the States any time soon. Even with that EE (which does look really really bad. Honestly, who likes that kind of image?) I'm gonna go ahead and pick this up, with the hope that when it does get released here it'll be a new de-EE'd transfer.
Thanks again.

In motion it looks very acceptable. Screen caps look worse.

Thanks everyone for your reviews. I got it today and am very happy. The EE is, indeed, not nearly as bad in motion as in the screencaps. Very happy with all other aspects of the picture. Grain is good and there is the occasional print speckle (which I like in small doses since it seems to add to a theatrical type viewing) so I am happy to have it. Wish I knew what the reason for a lack of a Stateside release was, but oh well, I have one now. Thanks again, mates!

So, I have seen some things online to suggest this disc has special features such as the 8 deleted scenes that were included on the DVD...

But I put it in today and tried to find them, and no luck...

Where are they? Anybody know? Not there?

There isn't any extras on the disc, it's one of those cheap ass Universal releases.

I was afraid of that. Guess this is one time I'll be holding on to my DVD.

Approx £5 for this or £8 for the box set

The other titles don't appeal much but for £3 extra - cheap as chips

Yeah, everywhere I lookd online it said it was region free but I just didn't want to take a chance on it since I live just far enough to make the return process not worth it.

I'll keep my eyes open for it in Europe next week. Hopefully I can find it in a shop.
