Warner Bros Geostorm (2017) Blu-ray 3D [Region Free]

Quote:
After an unprecedented series of natural disasters threatened the planet, the world’s leaders came together to create an intricate network of satellites to control the global climate and keep everyone safe. But now, something has gone wrong—the system built to protect the Earth is attacking it, and it’s a race against the clock to uncover the real threat before a worldwide geostorm wipes out everything...and everyone along with it.

Dean Devlin (writer/producer, “Independence Day”) makes his feature film directorial debut with suspense thriller “Geostorm,” starring Gerard Butler (“Olympus Has Fallen,” “300”), Jim Sturgess (“Cloud Atlas”), Abbie Cornish (“Limitless”), Alexandra Maria Lara (“Rush”), Daniel Wu (“The Man with the Iron Fists,” “Warcraft: The Beginning”), with Oscar nominees Ed Harris (“The Hours,” “Apollo 13”) and Andy Garcia (“The Godfather: Part III”).

Butler stars as Jake, a scientist who, along with his brother, Max, played by Sturgess, is tasked with solving the satellite program’s malfunction. Cornish stars as Secret Service agent Sarah Wilson; Lara as Ute Fassbinder, the ISS astronaut who runs the space station; Wu as Cheng, the Hong Kong-based supervisor for the Dutch Boy Program; with Garcia as U.S. President Andrew Palma; and Harris as Secretary of State Leonard Dekkom. The film also stars Adepero Oduye (“The Big Short,” “12 Years a Slave”), Amr Waked (“Lucy,” “Syriana”), Robert Sheehan (“The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,” “Season of the Witch”) and Eugenio Derbez (“Instructions Not Included”).

The film, written by Dean Devlin & Paul Guyot, is being produced by Skydance’s David Ellison, Devlin, and Skydance’s Dana Goldberg. Herbert W. Gains and Electric Entertainment’s Marc Roskin are the executive producers. Rachel Olschan of Electric Entertainment and Cliff Lanning co-produce.

The behind-the-scenes creative team includes director of photography Roberto Schaefer (“Finding Neverland,” “Quantum of Solace”), production designer Kirk M. Petruccelli (“White House Down”), costume designer Susan Matheson (“The Big Short,” “Safehouse”) and VFX supervisor Jeffrey A. Okun (“Clash of the Titans,” “The Day the Earth Stood Still”).

A Warner Bros. Pictures and Skydance presentation, “Geostorm” is a joint venture between Skydance and Electric Entertainment, Inc. Set to hit theaters October 20, 2017, it will be distributed in 3D and 2D in select theaters and IMAX, by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

October 20th, 2017 for Geostorm. I'll need to see another trailer and shown in 3D to consider seeing it in theaters. If the 3D is strong, then I'll check it out.

This one has a hell of a troubled production history. Trailer looks pretty awful... but I'm a disaster movie junkie so I'll probably go see it anyway.

"Warner Bros. ordered $15 million worth of reshoots last year, a process that involved recasting certain characters and extensive rewrites. Dean Devlin [director] was replaced by Danny Cannon. And mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer came on board to oversee things."

Yep, production was a bit of a 'disaster' in and of itself.

Hopefully, the changes are for the better. Definitely plan to see this when this comes out.

From what I understand it was originally a disaster/political thriller hybrid with a major subplot about a conspiracy to assassinate the president. Allegedly that subplot has been completely removed to make it a more straightforward disaster flick.

Well if that's the case, I say Thank God! I was not too keen on the 'assassinate the president' narrative. That whole synopsis felt like something out of a B-movie.

I think an improvement was made.

Cool. Love disaster movies, even the bad ones -- kind of like my feelings with found-footage films.

I love disaster movies, so might end up seeing this...if I don't, I'll just buy the 3D blu-ray.

I thought 3D was dead? Why then spend another $15 million reshooting and rewriting the plot and continue the post production 3D effort on something with such a "troubled history" many have alluded to? One would think they would try to recoup some costs instead.

........ and that 3D would be the first thing to be axed, considering it is so dead.

Yeah, I think destroying the whole world just to kill the president is going just a bit overboard.

I'll be amazed if we get a 3D blu of this. I'm surprised it's getting a theatrical 3D release considering all of the problems it's had. Oh well fingers crossed.

On the plus side, there's a fairly safe pair of hands as the stereographer so hopefully it's been conceived in 3D from the outset?

....watching the trailer however they aren't selling the 3D and it doesn't look framed for 3D.

I thought the trailer looked fun. I'm a fan of disaster films anyways. Isn't the basic premise straight out of Superman III though? Using satellites to make weather?

Ed Harris, glad he's in this one as a believable actor. I'm predicting he's going to be in a war room setting most of the film, calling the shots if he's a main character. While these movies can be predictable, if they take on an adventure aspect as with San Andreas 3D or 2012, where they're out in the field going through the danger, then it's a lot more exciting than if they're just watching from a research/data/tactical war room as asking/telling the President what they should do.

Looks like a nice list of 3D in there mostly, thanks.

The birds falling into frame look promising, though this trailer above had mostly distant shots to show off the waves or tornadoes.
