Belgium Bigfoot Family 3D Blu-ray (2020) [Region B Locked]

So far Bigfoot Family has only been released on 3D Blu-ray in France/Belgium and the Netherlands. Both these releases include English audio but please note that neither is in the original aspect ratio (both have been cropped from 2.35:1 to 1.78:1).

I'd love to see this 3D Blu Ray under the Christmas tree! nWave always produce strong 3D!! The only info I could find is,
"it's being sold internationally by Charades. The film will come out in France (courtesy of Apollo Films) and in Belgium (thanks to Belga Films) on 5 August."

It would be nice if we could get an English-friendly 3D Blu-ray, not sure if Brazil will oblige on this occasion.

I’ll be on the case for this and will report back as soon as I hear something from my usual supplier.
Hopefully this time, there will be a english friendly 3D blu-ray like what happened with Queen’s Corgi so it’s easier for everyone to enjoy the 3D.

I own like 200 3D Blu-Rays I haven't watched yet, this (series) is one of them. The 3D in this studio's films is always the most fun.

How can this be one of them when it hasn't come out on 3D Blu Ray yet.

Bigfoot Junior is arguably the best, and easily one of the best animated 3D Blu Ray for depth an popouts. We all have our favourites but I have yet to see anything that rivals NWAVE. Thunder and the House of Magic had awesome 3D as well

This is a new Bigfoot film, not Bigfoot Junior (and as the13thman mentioned, the only English-friendly 3D Blu-ray release of that title is from Brazil).

Didn't know this was coming out until my local cinema included the poster on their newsletter. They haven't announced times yet (it comes out 30th September in Switzerland) so I'll email them in advance to ask for a few 3D showings - the poster does say "2D & 3D" but nowadays cinemas need to be encouraged/lobbied in advance by 3D fans to offer it, especially when it comes to family/kids films...

So I emailed two local cinemas.
The closest (smaller) one is run by a guy who over the years has revealed himself to be completely anti-3D on a personal level and allows this to affect his judgement - he replied saying it was unlikely they would program even a single 3D screening, because "it is uncomfortable for people to wear both glasses and masks" simultaneously. He's programming lots of 2D showings. He always finds an excuse. Frankly it's unlikely anyone will go to any weekday screenings of this anyway (his cinema is in a small village and at this Covid time it's amazing he would refuse my money).

Thankfully though the other cinema further away, run by the big chain Pathé, replied nicely saying that they have programmed many 3D and 3D+4DX screenings (more than 2D). They're in a big city so will have a good turnout.

Default 3D review

Just saw it in 3D (only French audio offered and I could tell the animated speaking was designed for the English words). Nice to see a good number of excited schoolkids all wearing 3D glasses and repeatedly trying to touch the 3D elements.

Firstly, I should say that although I bought the Brazilian 3D blu-ray of the first film (for the English audio) I just didn't find a moment to watch it before the sequel. I'll watch it ASAP. What I can immediately say about Bigfoot Family though is that in comparison to all their other previous animation, NWave seriously upped their game this time around, in every aspect of the animation and storytelling - easily rivalling the likes of Blue Sky studios with their recent Spies in Disguise. It was honestly a shocking upgrade in animation and screenplay quality.

As for the 3D, I think you can guess that it was, as usual from Ben Stassen's team, top quality. As I pointed out with The Queen's Corgi, NWave differentiate themselves by choosing to create 3D depth by bringing everything forward before the frame - rather than the typical way, which is to create depth within and 'further into' the frame. In fact, I kept a close eye on the stereoscopic levels (with and without glasses) and sure enough they've chosen this time to not use traditional 3D depth at all (i.e. the furthest backgrounds were only ever 2D flat, or level with the actual screen). Everything in the image, other than the furthest background, had some level of 3D depth towards the viewer. Hope that makes sense.

Lots of outright pop outs (including an amusing moment of spittle from someone with braces) and fun 3D sequences - POV chases, roller-coaster like scenes, flying things (including weaponised drones), all to make the most of the 3D. In this respect it was very similar to Spies in Disguise, the difference being that this fun playful animation is complemented by strong, as opposed to medium, 3D.

The studio even included a little Easter egg to show their commitment to 3D: when Bigfoot gets out of a plane and enters a forest, you can glimpse a sticker with an image of stereoscopic glasses on the back of his backpack!

All in all I was really impressed with this effort from NWave, on all fronts - whereas previous films of theirs have been mediocre but "saved" by great 3D, this is a well-made animation in every respect, complemented by the 3D. Even the environmental story has substance (fans of fracking beware).

This studio might be our best hope for future 3D animation so let's hope they keep up the quality on all fronts and that this gets a 3D blu-ray release (ideally English-friendly).

nWave's next project is Chickenhare and the Hamster of Darkness, which is co-produced by Sony who will provide US distribution. Not sure what that means for Blu-ray 3D, but maybe we can see it in theater here.

Quote:
Our next film Chicken Hare is an animated work; we’ve already recorded the voice-overs in Los Angeles. It will take us until the end of 2021, at least. We do have another project, but instead of launching it in autumn as we usually would have done, we might not launch it until early 2021.

Going back to Chicken Hare, it’s a brilliant project which was developed by Sony Pictures and which we subsequently picked up. It’s an Indiana Jones animé of sorts, with lots of humour; it’s really sophisticated with a huge number of crowd scenes in particular. Our partnership with Sony allows for the option of distribution in the US, which opens up bright new horizons for us.

Hopefully, Belga Films includes OAR and an English audio track this time, so we don't have to depend on Brazil.

Some artwork here looks promising. Also looks like French release has English/French audio. Hopefully no forced subs.

If it's anything like Corgi, wait for DVDOUTLET or RAREWAVES to carry it. If you're really patient and can wait until Jan or Feb DVDOUTLET will have it discounted by then. I think I paid around $18 CAD for my CORGI as I waited a bit.

As soon as this is confirmed to be in 3D with English audio and non forced subtitles with the original aspect ratio, I’m getting it.
I’m done waiting for promotions or discounts on these hard to find and limited releases.

It's only the French import they've listed, Amazon.fr and other French retailers will inevitably list it soon enough.

It would indeed be a rare thing for a French release of an nWave movie to be English-friendly.
