Default Blu-ray & PS3 vs Competition...

I can't wait for that day when Blu-Ray wins this format war and when the PS3's full potential is utilized and does 360s around the XBOX 360.

I have a guy that I work with that swears the the PS3 is a joke and won't ever live up to its name and that it will die by the end of 2008. He annoys the hell out of me when he starts to talk so much crap about the PS3 and how the 360 is better and the Blu-Ray won't win. He thinks he know everything about technology and talks like he was the developer, its almost comical. He didn't even know that the PS3 can upscale.

I bet he is just like all the other people that only focus on the purchase price. I look at specs and potential. Both Blu-Ray and PS3's are much better options for the future.

Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD - Just to name a few... Blu has greater Bandwidth, holds more data, burners are already available, and has better Studio and CE Support.

PS3 vs. 360 - PS3's games are on Blu-Ray(HD Gaming) not DVD Discs, built in Blu-Ray player not seperate add-on, upscales DVD's, better and bigger games due to getter space limits.

Why limit yourself to an inferior product just to save some money. Lets say if you saved $100.00 by buying an HD-DVD or a 360 and have the product for atleast 3 years. You only ended up saving just over 9 cents a day. That is not much if you think about it, and you have a product that is not built for the future. You will then probably end up buying a Blu-Ray player or a PS3 to upgrade your outdated items(or dead format) and it will cost you more in the end.

Save yourself the trouble and just go Blu now.

Well when the PS3 came out, it couldn't upscale, price is a big factor, not everyone wants to put something on a credit card and pay 9 cents a day, we live in the US, the land of the impatient. Did I just contradict myself? Anyways, you're definitely right, the PS3 is the much better console. But in terms of sales, didn't you just see the numbers Sony's Playstation put up for the year so far, it is way underperforming, it sucks. But it won't die, in 2008 or ever. Once the numbers of the soon to be 400 dollar playstation rise, developers will turn their focus to the PS3 as much as they do the 360.

In my honest opinion the 360 has the advantage now because of their quantity of games. But the 360 is just about at it's peak already while the PS3 is still in relative infancy. I dont see the 360 lasting many more years as Microsoft will likely make a "720" and ditch 360 like they did xbox.

Thumbs up

I love my 80 Gig PS3. However, like most people on this site I did my homework before I went out and started blowing money on my entertainment system and console/peripherals.

Samsung 56" LED DLP HDTV w/
Samsung 5.1 surround sound receiver with built in up scaling 5 DVD carousel
PS3 80 gig
Whole thing hooked up with HDMI cables

I would have gone with all Sony products; however my favorite Uncle works for Texas Instruments who personally worked on the LED DLP color engine.

Sorry for the tangent... but I looked at the longevity of the PS3, potential, etc. Well... that and the Final Fantasy franchise has stuck with the PS label for so long it was another big selling point... and MGS4... What can I say I am a gamer! And I BUY/WATCH BLU-RAY MOVIES (tool box statisticians)!!!

Nutshell: informed consumers = informed purchasing power. Go BLU!

Yes it is true, it couldn't upscale at first. That right there shows that the PS3 could be expanded to do so much. There is alot of potential there. You don't have to pay for the PS3 or a Blu-Ray by using a credit card. I was just stating that the overall savings only add up to about 9 cents a day. $100 doesn't really make much of a difference if you plan on having a product for quite a few years. Alot of people are always thinking about the present and not the future.

I totally agree...the 360 is almost peaked at its performance and quality of games. The PS3's technology is really young and will get alot better. If you compare PS2 games when the system was first released to the latest games that have been developed for it, the differences are like night and day. If you think PS3's games look good now, just wait another year or two and you will really see what the PS3 is all about. And it would only get better from there. I can't wait to see some of these future games.

It now appears that M$ and To$hiba are working on getting a 360 with a built in hd dvd drive. Okay M$, so what is it? You downtrod on Sony for having a built in Blu Ray driver and now your want to do the same with you system? Hmmm........maybe Sony WAS onto something.

I don't think they will do that...if they did, the games will still have to be on standard DVD Discs. The HD-DVD drive will only be a movie player. Reason is, if they start to develop games on HD-DVD for the 360...all the old 360 owners will get screwed and won't be able to play the new games. So, it will still be the same old game system that can play Hi-Def movies without an add-on. It's pretty much too little, too late if they follow through on that one.

Toshiba has denied these rumors. If it were true I don't think they would deny them in the hopes that people who are considering buying a PS3 might wait for their Xbox hd dvd hybrid instead.

If hd-dvd wanted a real chace at "winning" the format/console war they should of made the games on hd-dvd with the drive already in it, if this does pan out they will have another add on so all the old xbox360 users can play the new hd-dvd games . Pathetic!!!!!!!

while i basically agree with the ps3 being better. nobody can deny that TODAY, the 360 is the better gaming console.

i own more 360 games than ps3 games, but i do like the looks of the upcoming ps3 games. and i'm really pumped about keyboard/mouse support for unreal!

If that was to be the case then why did M$ not incorporate a HD DVD drive into their 360 Elite modle. Sounds f' uped to me.

Hell yeah. I researched all of mine too. I have yet to buy the surround sound system for my set-up, but I too have a PS3 hooked up with an HDMI to my Samsung HLT5687s DLP LED. What a beautiful TV it is.
