Default Dark Harvest (dir. David Slade)

Deadline

Quote:

David Slade, the director behind such films as The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Hard Candy, and 30 Days of Night, will direct Dark Harvest, the New Regency horror feature based on Norman Partridge’s 2006 novel. Michael Gilio, who co-wrote Paramount’s forthcoming Dungeons & Dragons film, is adapting the pic, which is being produced by Matt Tolmach.

The book is set during Halloween of 1963 in a small Midwestern town where teenage boys eagerly square off with the butcher knife wielding October Boy, aka Ol’ Hacksaw Face aka Sawtooth Jack. Both the hunter and the hunted, the October Boy is the prize in an annual rite of life and death. One teen, Pete McCormick, knows that killing the October Boy is his one chance to escape a dead-end future in the one-horse town. But before the night is over, Pete will look into the saw-toothed face of horror – and discover the terrifying true secret of the October Boy.

There hasn't been any new news yet on this.

But I just wanted to say that I want this film so bad. I hope it has that Autumn October vibe.

There's no way this releases September 9th which is what it's currently scheduled for. But I really hope it comes out this fall. I wouldn't want them to release it any other time of year.

Rated R for strong horror violence and gore, language throughout, and brief drug use.

No release news, but the movie is done.

Weird. Will it just be dropped on streaming?

I believe it's MGM, so it could potentially wind up on Amazon Prime ala Thirteen Lives?

That said, Amazon announced their originals all the way through Halloween and this wasn't on the list.

I highly doubt it. I mean, I can’t imagine it is in any capacity.

I feel like at some point it will be announced it’s been sold to a streaming service.

this is the most likely scenario. It's clearly not coming to theaters anytime soon, and Amazon now owns MGM.

I could see them dropping it in October for Halloween. They don't need a ton of marketing for it if it's just going to Prime.

With Halloween approaching, the two films for the past two years that I was anticipating in seeing was this and Salem’s Lot. And for the past two years, they’ve both been promised and teased and had release dates that have then been pulled and now both have completely disappeared.

Now, if this is going to be released on streaming, would we have heard by now? Or has it been shelved indefinitely?

They are doing a one-night Fathom theatrical release on Wednesday, October 11th before dumping it to digital on Friday, October 13th.

I certainly hope there’s more creativity to the design of the creature than what the one shot in the trailer looks to be.

I actually started the book over the weekend, 2/3 of the way through it now. The book has been pretty fun, some great Halloween atmosphere. Looking forward to this.

I like David Slade. Hard Candy and 30 Days of Night are really solid films and the episodes of the Hannibal TV show he directed were well done. He’s basically just been directing TV since 2011, so it’s nice that he’s returning to theatrical films.

I gotta be honest though, this really doesn't look good at all to me. If it wasn’t for the fact that Slade directed this, I wouldn’t even bother watching it. Looks cheap with uninteresting/bad actors and a lot of shaky cam. It also seems like the monster is just an alien and maybe the real evil is all the people in the town. Hopefully the film is better than the trailer, but my expectations are very low now.

The one thing bothering me is that this is supposed to be set in like the 50’s/60’s right? The masks they are wearing look WAY too modern.
