Arrow Red Colour Issues During Blu-Ray Playback

I have done numerous searches on these forums (and google) and haven't been able to find an exact answer to this. So please forgive me if this is an obvious one!

I have a PS3 connected to a Sony 40" 1080p Bravia via HDMI(just a cheap one) and the sound going through an optical cable to a 5.1 sound system. So the HDMI is only having to carry video and no sound during playback.

I have been renting Blu-ray movies and have been noticing that during dark scenes that a lot of red shows up on screen and especially around faces. The movies that are an example of this happening are Apocolypto, Tears of the Sun and Brokeback Mountain.

Is there any reason this is happening? Is there a simple way to stop it happening? Any help would be greatly appreciated

ive noticed that usually color problems come from a faulty cable
and you get better sound through the hdmi cable

Unless what you mean is that the dark tones have a redish tint, having the image contrast be very high (setting the black level too extra low = increases overall image contrast by making the drak tones go farther and farther away from the light tones) sometimes makes dark colors exagerated (specially if you have saturation set high) making for ruddy faces. So check all settings and turn off any enhancing options (vivid auto color flesh etc) and check calibration (Sony BDs have basic color bar test pattern, press 7669 while on a Sony BD's main menu; or the T2 BD has a THX Optimizer) and see if it helps.
