USA In The Family (2011) - June 25, 2013

Quote:
In the town of Martin, Tennessee, Chip Hines, a precocious six year old, has only known life with his two dads, Cody and Joey. And a good life it is. When Cody dies suddenly in a car accident, Joey and Chip struggle to find their footing again. Just as they begin to, Cody's will reveals that he named his sister as Chip's guardian. The years of Joey's acceptance into the family unravel as Chip is taken away from him. In his now solitary home life, Joey searches for a solution. The law is not on his side, but friends are. Armed with their comfort and inspired by memories of Cody, Joey finds a path to peace with the family and becomes closer to his son.

I honestly feel like I've been waiting for this forever. I'm ecstatic that I will finally be able to see it.

Same here. Still not shown in England (not even at the Lesbian and Gay London Film Festival). Hope it lives up to the hype!

Does anyone know why there's two listings? This one linked to above is the second listing that showed up a couple days ago. The first listing seems identical, just lower priced..

I think it's a mistake in the database listing and that the cheaper one is linking to the DVD version rather than the BD.

You're right--it now links to the DVD, though was listed as Blu before.

..I ordered that one a couple weeks ago for $27 and it's still listed in my orders as a blu-ray...hmm

Anyway, I put in an order for this one as well just now, since it seems correct.

Thanks

Ok, they cancelled that first order just now, so it's just one listing...the one on this site just needs to be fixed.

Beautiful film by first time film maker Patrick Wang. He was clearly influenced by Ozu and Ang Lee. This was also championed by the late Roger Ebert, why I sought it out in it's brief independent release city by city.

I'm covering this for my site and just got my blu-ray copy. Comes with a booklet that has 4 essays, as well as two visual essays on the disc itself. Only other supplements are a Behind the Scenes and a trailer. Hopefully I can dig into this tonight.

Correction, there are actually four video essays, two by Patrick Wang himself. The film is absolutely stunning, both in presentation and content. I've been waiting on this for nearly a year and it was exactly what I want. Such a wide range of emotions and the first film to move me on such an emotional level in too long.

Caught this one at Ebertfest. While it's a wee bit too long (a criticism I rarely lay out for a film), it's a pretty damn incredible film, one that shines for independent cinema.

I'm a huge Trevor St. John fan. He's an incredible actor. I'll watch just to see his role.

I can confirm that the blu ray disc is Region B compatible. I took a chance and ordered a copy and there were no problems in either of our Region B locked players.
