Yes, I'm pretty happy with my BFI Tatis but would be tempted to double dip if there was some new and interesting stuff in this release.

Traffic and Parade on Blu-ray? I'm definitely getting this then as I only have those ones on DVD. I'm not sure how much of a marked improvement those two will be though, but I'll wait and see

If the other four titles are using the same prints and extras as the BFI releases, then I hope those two titles are released separately, as £41 (at the moment) is a lot to spend on just two titles

I will be enormously surprised if StudioCanal do NOT use the new restos that were screened in France this summer:

Like I said, it wasn't just a simple screening at Cannes, but a celebration of Tati's work, it would be shocking if they used old transfers. The celebration received big coverage in the French media, and abroad. So, Jour... is probably a lock to be the new 2K resto.

The new resto for Parade, which you like, was just screened at Lumiere in Lyon as well.

The French set looks really cool. I wonder if the UK version is going to be released with the same packaging, considering the price gap of €40.

I got the 4 BFI releases,they were pretty good with the exception of Jour De Fete which was in very bad nick in both thomson colour and 1964 english versions.If the new Studio Canal set has been able to restore this film I would jump at this set,it's hard to see how they can improve on Playtime though, the BFI blu-ray was pristine.It will be nice to see Trafic and Parade on blu,I really liked the horse and rider mime in the latter such graceful movement from Tati who must have been quite elderly at the time.I would also hope that the Studio Canal set is not just a bare bones release of the films but also includes the shorts,a good career documentary would be nice too and didn't Tati make a film in the mid 70's about a football team? maybe i'm asking too much but a collection of his complete works really can't be that hard to assemble

All extant blu-ray discs of Playtime are very unsatisfactory, having been mastered from the 35mm reduction negative rather than the original 65mm. This is the one film in the set I really hope Studio Canal will upgrade.

Oh, and this is quite odd (from Amazon.fr):

- "Jour de fête" version 1994 (DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono - Couleur - 1.37 - 720p - 77')
- "Les vacances de Mr Hulot" version 1953 (DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono - N&B - 1.37 - 720p - 95')

It'll be pretty naff if these 'alternate' versions of the films aren't presented in HD, but considered lesser disc extras - I'm surprised to see the listing has "Parade" as 1080p - I thought that one was made on tape, hence the BFI only doing it as a DVD.

Huh, so there's no clear best option? I thought the BFIs were already restored, and assumed the remaining roughness was due to source material. It's going to be a wait-and-see for the reviews, I guess.

I'm very tempted to double-dip on this set, depending on evolving details; but in the meantime, I'm glad I have all four BFIs to fall back on.

The B.F.I. blu-ray of Playtime is 1:85:1 aspect and even if it is sourced from a 35mm reduction negative,apart from the opening titles of clouds and credits the rest of the film looks fantastic,there isn't a blemish on it,I'd love to know what you found disappointing about it.it seems like Studiocanal are not going to be able to improve on it after all.B.F.I's blu-ray of Mon Oncle is also excellent,just compare the quality to the dvd that they also included.The only B.F.I blu-ray that was genuinely disappointing picture wise was Jour De Fete though the audio was fine and the extras were good.
