Default Sound through NON-Acoustically Transparent Screen

Hello,

I was looking at some Pull Down Screens to pull over my TV,
due to my space limitations i have speakers mounted on the wall next to the TV and do not have space for floor standing speakers.

I have noticed that AT Pull down screens are rare/expensive and I do not feel the need to spend alot of money on a temporary setup.

I wanted to know how sound sounds though a non acoustically transparent screen, i am not a audio enthusiast so i do not care about that fact that i will not get the best possible audio but obviously i do not want sound that is muffled of distorted so it sounds horrible.

Is there a noticeable diference in audio quality?
Or does it just sound horrible?

Many Thanks
- Panic

I have no idea what sound would be like through a non acoustically transparent screen but I think Big Daddy might know. Try sending him a private message.

I would think it would make a difference the most in the highs and mids. The lower frequencies will be the least affected.

If the screen is not acoustically transparent, it will not have any effect on the lower frequencies as they have very long wavelengths. However, a screen can absorb some of the higher frequencies and may affect the dialog. It is possible that everything may sound as if they are coming from the bottom of a well.

Having said all of the above, the sound may still be acceptable to you. Before you invest any money, cover the front speakers with a blanket and find out how they sound. If the sound is still acceptable to you, go ahead and buy the pull down screen.

You may have to adjust the level of the speakers and possibly re-equalize them when you use the screen.
