it's about time they started to release some Bruce Lee titles here. I see that they are also releasing Fist of Fury too. Lets hope the rest follow shortly.

To be fair, The Big Boss is one of the few films Fortune Star has produced for blu-ray release that had a proper HD transfer... albeit a couple countries (France, I believe, and the pre-recalled Shout Factory release) got stuck with an upscale. I know the HK, German, (corrected) US, and Japanese releases were true HD... the only real issue was in the color timing. A pinch too much of a teal push.

However, rumor has it that the Bruce Lee films are going to have 4K remasters, hopefully along the lines of Story of Ricky (if that XT Video screencap is anything to go by).

And this is coming from someone who normally bashes Fortune Star's attempts at "HD" transfers, so don't think I have a bias

What are the chances of the Jackie Chan movies Mediumrare are releasing being true HD?

If they are I will no doubt buy them all

Unless new masters are done, no chance.

Sad, but true. The Jackie Chan films got the short end of the stick. The only JC films that got proper HD releases of their original HK cuts are Twin Dragons and City Hunter. The Armour of God films had proper HD transfers of the US cuts, but of course they're dubbed only and missing footage.

As for The Big Boss, I'm just curious to see if this is the new rumored 4k master. In a perfect world, it would have the texture of the current blu ray but the color timing of the DVD.

Jackie Chan movies in dub is fine by me but missing footage is a no go, it took me long enough to track down many of the JC movies I have in full on DVD.

I don't mind dubs (70s through early 90s dubs, preferably), but as long as we have the option for original audio as a priority.

As Mediumrare seem to be licensing from Shout! i'll wager this disc will be an exact port of their release, even down to having the same menu.

OPY, where did you hear the Bruce Lee films would get 4K remasters? (If they do, would that be enough to make us buy them yet again?)
If Story of Ricky can get a 4K remaster surely the Jackie Chan classics can

All I can say is it was "insider info" from a company that has the rights to Lee's films... Gotta trust me on this one. I kinda raised an eyebrow to them myself until I saw the work on Story of Ricky. Plus I could've sworn I read somewhere that SOR's New master was actually coming from HK, which makes me hopeful that someone has indeed taken over from Fortune Star.

That'd be nice Of course, with my luck, mediumrare just uses the same HD transfer... I was just going to get them for the rumored steelbooks anyway

I don't see myself ever upgrading the majority of my kung fu movies. Never say never, but plenty of them were bloody hard to find and cost quite a lot, starting that journey again for another format isn't appealing! OAR, uncut, original language, modern subtitle translations... it's a tough enough list to fulfil without adding 4k remaster to the list!

I'm very, very happy with my Jackie Chan DVD collection and don't think I will be able to upgrade/replace the vast majority in any hurry.

Thank God for DVD is all I can say.
