Default Without Warning New 2K Scan from Kino Lorber

http://https://www.kinolorber.com/film/view/id/5259#.YjsNhOoo1t8.link

Held off on buying the Scream Factory set in aftermarket for this. Can’t wait. Starring Jack Palance and Kevin Peter Hall as the Alien Hunter (several years before Predator.)

Although I own the existing Shout blu, I'm also eagerly looking forward to seeing Kino's 2k remaster of this wonderfully-terrible, somehow very entertaining film. Please do us proud, Kino.

Palance is just a beast. I'd rather watch a 15-minute short of Palance eating a bag of walnuts than rewatch most of the new releases that have come out in 2022 so far.

Yes indeed. I hope his Hawk the Slayer gets a Region A release.

Glad this is getting a re-release since the Scream one slipped through my fingers.

I have the Scream Factory release, but I'm curious about the transfer. Packaging overall looks better too! Mine looks like it will be delivered tomorrow.

Anyone have a chance to compare this to the Scream Factory release yet? Wondering if the new transfer is worth the double dip.

Here's some screenshots from my computer. I can't set my player to a specific size, so I sized it as close as I could to 1920x1080. Shots are also not exact same frame but very close.

Thumbs up

Those 70s staches and hairdos are much improved by this new transfer.

I’m looking on my phone, but outside of the first comparison they look very similar. The Shout seems a little warmer.

Does the remastered Kino have a Filmways up front (if itbwas attatched to whatever the element was) or is one of those that had no logo at all since ti was a pickup rather than Filmways own production?

The Kino looks like a pretty decent upgrade IMO. Better black levels, better resolved grain, a little more info in the frame. The new transfer has more depth to the image and the older one looks kind of flat in comparison. I never picked up the Shout BD, so I'm definitely gonna pick up the new disc from Kino.

I'm glad I never gave in and paid $80 for the OOP Shout version.

Yeah, I'm wary of getting most OOP Shout Factory releases, especially their MGM titles. So many are getting re-released through Kino and Vinegar Syndrome. Remastered too, so there's good reason to wait it out a bit.

Or even worse, the boot the director was selling directly

You can on a bigger screen. It's not a huge leap, but you can definitely notice more detail in some of them. Not a ton, but it's noticeable.

Yes, mine arrived from Kino along with my pre-orders of A Fistful of Dollars and For a Few Dollars More just in time for Memorial Day weekend. It definitely looks like an upgrade from the Shout Blu. More detail in the resolution, more natural color grading and better black levels. I never got that, just going on screen shots. Im upgrading from an old DVD of a VHS rip. It's like a revelation for me. Looks much better than whatever is streaming on Pluto or Xumo, I forget which it was.

I missed out on the Scream Factory, too. Not sure about those screen shots, though. The first from Scream almost looks better on this Element tv I am on... I will probably buy this during a sale...
