Question Putting 720p.mp4 onto DVD for BD use?

Hello All,

Excuse the ignorance on the knowledge for this issue, but wondering if anyone can help me out and clarify things as to whether this will work or not:

I'm basically trying to make a dvd with mixed music videos and performances on it, for use in a BD player (my BD player *does* read and play DVD-r so that shouldn't be a problem I wouldnt think)

My question is: most of the ones I'm able to get in 720p quality
(1080p is also an option but that can't be used on a regular DVD right?
Or could I be using the 1080p ones instead of 720?!
Or it would take up a lot of space? looking at putting 50 or so ~4min videos onto one disc, or two if needed -- so 1080 would limit the # available to put onto each one correct?)

So regardless of whether it's 720 or 1080 put onto the disc, can the mp4 files (and some will have to be .wmv or .mov files as mp4 isn't an option on all) be put onto a regular standard DVD-R and played without glitch onto a BD player?

I plan on using Nero software to burn all the files onto the disc (unless theres a different free software available that comes more highly recommended?)
*(I also have a MAC available to use too, but wouldn't know what software would be better suited for what I'm looking to do on there)*

I've tried researching the topic extensively but have found either little pertaining to what i'm specifically trying to do, or things using too much jargon I'm not familiar with lolz
if anyone would be of any help in the matter it would be so greatly appreciated!
