This is awesome news! I didn’t know Paramount had an angle on this.

Had a feeling this was coming. I just spotted a listing for an old DVD releae on Bullmoose the other day that seemed out of place. Also spotted one for The Diving Bell and the Butterfly too, but I think Lionsgate has that, so I'm not sure if that's coming or what.

edit: This page, which will probably get turned into the BD page soon enough

Hallelujah! Love this movie. Crossing my fingers it's remastered; the streaming version looks terrible.

Glad to see Paramount releasing new catalogue titles again as they seemed pretty quiet after the Kino deal.

For me, this is the best movie ever made about food- and one of the best films about siblings. I still think about the last scene where they cook breakfast to this day. Can't wait!

My copy just arrived from BullMoose yesterday (padded envelope... grr, fortunately no damage tho), and just taking a quick look and superficial compare to the ancient 1998 DVD it's replacing (which AFAICT was the only prior disc release here in USA/CAD.)

Basic specs match as stated in the DB:
Single disc, BD50 (32.8 GB data)
Dolby TrueHD 2.0, English
Dolby Digital 2.0, French
Subs: English SDH, English, French (absent are the Spanish subs from DVD)
AR: 1.78, a slightly opened matte as compared to DVD (not cropped)
Bonus: a digital copy code, otherwise none... not even the trailer from DVD.
Menu: English or french selected at startup, the usual language options from menu, scene selection.
Have not checked for region lock yet, tho no code is printed on sleeve or disc so might be open.

Compared to the ancient DVD (which looks like it was probably struck from an analog master for LD & tape) this is a huge improvement - as one should expect. Tho my eye is rather poor at detecting these details, there are some annoyances: though the print here is so much cleaner than the DVD source, some occasional dirt, scratch and gate wobble are still present... definitely not a full restoration here. There does seem to be some light EE ringing noise present on high contrast boundaries, film grain is present and is very coarse but has an odd feel to it - like maybe some mild DNR could be causing some peculiar motion to it, tho perhaps is just the nature of this print.

Overall I'm happy enough with this as a basic replacement, tho far from what I'd wished for. I can't comment on how it compares to any other RoW disc or stream releases. A real shame there are no bonus present, a commentary could have been especially interesting and entertaining, maybe even a sales boost as I'd expect some enhanced interest for this following Tucci's recent (and tragically cancelled) sort-of-related food documentary series "Searching for Italy".

Ah well...

Ah well...
They kind of missed the boat by a year on peak interest in the show, but in any case, I'm glad this is finally getting a release.

Sounds like a very similar experience (video-wise) to my Australian copy.
Video is pretty poor by any standards, but it's the best we're going to get until maybe a boutique picks this up.

My copy just arrived, can't wait to watch it!

But: Bi-lingual packaging even though I ordered from Amazon.com, what the what!? Haven't seen one of these in 17 years. That's why I stopped ordering from Canadian retailers.

Does the audio sound weird to anyone else? Dialog seems to come from all channels on my 5.1 setup.
