GameStop - PS4 demand strong, 600,000 sign up to mailing list

GameStop president Tony Bartel believes the figures prove that the public is ready for a new generation of consoles.

"With only a glance at the PS4, gamers are excited and eager to know more," Bartel stated.

"Within just a few weeks, more than 600,000 people have signed up, showing strong demand for this new console."

Nice. I'm still waiting on more news for the PS4, but I hope pre-ordering doesn't mean I have to wait in line for a couple of days at midnight just to get one. Although it probably will.

If you pre-order from GS your guaranteed the console. You can go in at any time within 2 days of the release and pick it up no need to wait in line.

I dont understand why they must wait until we get a finalized price. Just do a 50 or 100 dollar deposit. We all know it will cost more than that.

You already can in the UK. I placed a £20 deposit for it at GAME after the reveal.

I thought lots of places would start taking pre orders if it means money in the tills. But a lot of places are srtill holding out.

My only guess is they would prefer to wait until they know the launch price so they can get more paid in full pre orders. More paid in full orders = fewer cancelled pre orders.

Or they could be waiting til they know how many consoles they will receive. If a store takes 1000 pre orders, but only gets 500 consoles, the unending nerd rage would be catastrophic.

lol i hate GS. they're my last resort to buy anything game related. maybe buy a used system from them, but a new console, i'll give my money to someone else.

I can understand your feelings towards GS but why do feel that way about new system sales? You just don't want to give them your business or is it something else? Personally, the only reason I'm buying the PS4 from them is that they will take my PS3s & apply that to the cost of the PS4.

The PS4 might not have backwards compatibility for the PS3 if you are aware. I keep hearing about Gaikai being able to play PS3 games with streaming as their way of backwards compatibility, which I'm skeptical about.

Oh I'm fully aware of the PS4 not being BC & I could care less. But what does your statement have to do with my previous statement?

I was just seeing you have 50 PS3 games on your sig, figured you do something about your games. Then again, but you might not be playing most of them when you get a PS4. :P

All of those PS3 games will be traded in along with my two PS3s.
