Angry I got fired today

So I am in New York for a 4 month internship, but they fired me today (after 2 weeks). I will try to explain it:

I am not from the USA, but a foreign student.
I signed a contract with a company in the USA for a 4 months internship in New York. Work load: 32 to max 40 hours per week. UNPAID internship.

I worked there for 1 to 2 weeks, but I didn't feel comfortable / welcome at the company. I fulfilled the tasks that were given to me, but the tasks were nothing like was agreed on. So I didn't knew how to work with some of the programs and asked for assistance. I don't think this was appreciated because he said ''You don't know anything, you constantly ask for help.'' I AM AN INTERN. He was giving me assignments I had no idea of (not or only slightly related to my internship).

On one of the days, I only took a 15 minutes break. I worked at least 7 full hours. When I asked him if it was OK to leave, he said ''I don't care, you do whatever you want,'' and walked away. I returned to the office today and he said he was not happy with me, because I ask for help too many times. He also said that I need to work AT LEAST 12 and up to 14 hours A DAY. This is double the amount of hours as was agreed on in the contract. I didn't agree with that. I didn't even got the chance to talk about it. He just said: ''Well, than you're not motivated enough for this position and I have to let you go.''

This has nothing to do with motivation in my opinion. We signed a contract and he broke it. He was trying to take advantage of my position as a student, especially because my position was UNPAID. I paid for everything, spend close to $6,000 USD, all for nothing...

Is this how it works in the United States?

Well, I didn't like the company anyway .
At least now I have some time to watch movies and series, better than working 14 hours a day for free .
