Default Have you ever bought a movie you hated just to support Blu-ray?

I'm curious has anyone here bought a movie they know they hated, just for the sake that it's on blu-ray? Or maybe that it just might have a good pq or something?

I mean I'm guessing plenty of people here have bought the Alexander blu-ray edition. Funny how I own every copy of this film but I have yet to see it. So why do I have it? Because I do intentionally like to own films that get considered the worst film ever. As Alexander was. It's one of those silly guilty pleasures I and probably no one would understand.

But for myself I hate the first Spider-man movie. I didn't see 2 or 3, But I'm buying the collection because I see it as a huge release for Blu-ray. Though I intend to give the first another shot, and with all three give the series a better try.

I also own AVP, which I'm a Die Hard Alien and Predator fanboy so I had to have it, though consider this film a huge disappointment.
I'm one of the only people in this world who hated Mission: Impossible, but I have the collection because I know it's gonna go up in value plus I got it cheap enough. Anyhow those are the films I knew I hated before purchasing them. But I do blind buy alot, so I have a few films I have on blu-ray that I also hate.

I got 48 currently (counting collections as one) 7 on Order but one of those is coming today "Tekkonkinkreet". I'm fine with my overall collection anyhow, and i'm getting up there.

I hated troy in theaters (for the 100th time) but I kept hearing how much better it was now and how good the pq was so I bought it. and I liked it. I also got underworld evolution as one of the buy 2 get 1 free deals. but I sold that crap. yuck. pq was great, story was not.

I can't say I bought a movie I hated.. BUT I have purchased movies I have not seen (but got good reviews), and movies that were ok (but not great).
I even got one I didn't think needed to be in HD, but after watching it, I am glad I did cause it looks amazing!

Not a chance; if I hate the movie I wouldn't buy it on BluRay. I am sure there are great PQ movies but a great PQ doesn't mean the movie doesn't suck. I would not even hold Alexander BluRay in my hands let alone allow the turd to enter my collection.

It is set in future. They use technology that isn't even possible (yet). You have to give the movie the benefit of the doubt sometimes. I believe that in order to like Ultraviolet, you have to be able to nod your head and say, "Sure why not."

It is made by the director of Equilibrium. It has the same fell. IF you liked that movie, you will like Ultraviolet.

most of the "buy a bluray player and get 5 free" promotional movies I didnt like but dammit they were free. I wont get rid of them but I can definatly tell you I will only watch most of them the one time.

I am not a big mission:impossible fan. I liked the first one but that is about it. But guess who owns the complete missions collection......

No, but I've bought movies I already have on DVD despite pledging not to double (or triple) dip.

no, but I once bought a movie I don't even know to taste BD. The world by then was still ruled by HD DVD and it was hard to get region-free BD in UK, considering my PS3 is Japanese

Default A Vow Meant To Be Broken

Yep, that was a vow I broke as soon as I picked my free Blu-ray movies after buying the Sony Blu-ray player. Sadly, a couple of these movies are actually triple dips because I owned them first on laserdisk. Sigh.

The one movie I would buy for the third time on DVD alone is the first Fantastic Four movie--except that they'd have to release on Blu the Director's Cut version that just came out this past June. It made a *much* better movie than the theatrical version because of all the deleted scenes reintegrated into the film. That was the same with the Director's Cut of Daredevil. The extended version was superior to the theatrical cut. (One wonders why the movie studios keep chopping up their films just to fit them into the theaters and come up with an inferior product in the process, only to release a better version on DVD long after viewers have formed such negative opinions that they likely won't spring for the Extended/Director's Cut.)

no, i'm only buying movies that i know i'll watch over and over again. i'm not buying just to inflate my collection. i do not need to have every movie on blu-ray.

wow to be honest I was expecting a few more Yes's considering Alexander and Troy (though I'm guessing the directors cut has improved the film?)

I wouldn't even buy a movie I think I wouldn't like let alone hated. I'll continue to support Blu (78 and counting) but I am not a fanatic to the point I will just throw money away.

No way would I buy a movie I hated. However, I to seem to take more chances when buying on Blu. In general I have really good intuition as to what movies I will like or not like just by reading a little about it or even watching a trailer. I just know if I will be able to like at least something about the movie to make it enjoyable to me. That said, I am more likely to buy a Blu when I'm not entirely sure about my feeling of it, which doesn't bug me because I'm still a collector at heart.

I'm very guilty of buying movies I've never seen. I don't rent that much at all.

I'm weird like that.

That all started back in the early days of DVD when it was easy for me to buy every new release. I just love movies.

I've bought movies on DVD 3 or 4 times before. I'm trying to concentrate on movies I don't have right now. I have some Blu that I have on DVD, but those are going into one of four categories: 1) free, 2) VERY cheap, 3) huge fan of the movie, or 4) extended/director's cut that I don't have on DVD.

My goal is to one day, see at least one more movie than Leonard Maltin has.

No. I'll support Blu-Ray all the way, but not at the expense of wasting my hard earned money on a bad product.

I support Blu-ray by buying movies I like. If good movies are not being released on BD why would I want to support it? Anyway, I dont think there is any shortage of good movies at the moment. I just think some people are obsessed with movies and have got it in their head they shouldn't buy DVDs so they are left buying all the crappy BD.
