Default Blu-ray: The Price of Promotion

http://www.tvpredictions.com/blupromo102907.htm

Read the part where this guy basically says that Blu-ray players at $499 are essentially just DVD players. Ok, sure, whatever, another HD-DVD shill.

I don't really agree with that part, but agree with him that the Blu-ray side should spend some of their money lowering prices on players. I don't think they have to match HD DVD prices, but really should get closer soon. I think it just makes economic sense, given what Toshiba is doing, to lower some prices and try to basically beat HD DVD by the end of CES 2008 (early January). I think trying to beat them later could be a lot more expensive than spending the money to close the door on them the next couple of months. I believe Warner is watching closely to see how HD DVD's standalones sell and getting some lower prices for Blu-ray standalones could help there a lot. With Panasonic's 1.1 player coming out at $499 soon, a drop to $399 MSRP for 1.0 players now would seem like a good move to me.

Yep, typical shill. Dead giveaway is using MSRP on one side ($499) against a sale price on the other ($198).

sheesh
