Son of a *****. I figured the TT disc would more than tide me over for the rest of my days, but I'd have no choice if there's a remaster...one of my favorite Chuck westerns.

I thought the Twilight Time release already looked pretty good, so I wonder how much of an improvement this one will be? Some of the MGM restorations that been released by Scorpion recently haven't been been huge improvements over previous releases.

Thankfully I obtained most of my twilight time collection at very reasonable prices, but it seems like I keep getting tempted into upgrading them all more and more with each new release

I've only upgraded 10 to Midnight so far (and plan to get Thunderbolt and Lightfoot.) I'm having a hard time believing they're going to be able to wring much improvement out of that dated master, but we'll see how things shake out.

Have they been a slight improvement though? An improvement is still an improvement. Better than nothing?

I guess it depends on who you ask? I personally liked the original release of the Mechanic more, while with the Delta Force I saw a few others prefer the original. Most of these MGM remasters seem to go a little overboard with making the skin a bit too red as well. Detail is better for the most part on the ones I've seen, but not by a large margin.

We’ll have to see. The new IP scan of Kino’s Runaway Train didn’t seem to offer a big enough difference over the previous release.

...now, if they can get Paul Talbot to do a commentary, I’d probably double dip either way.

Fook yeah!!! MGM's old HD master (used on the TT Blu and others) was crusty looking and riddled with EE, so Kino's new 2k IP scan is indeed welcomed! I'm sure we won't have a Alfred Garcia situation again, since Kino are doing a totally new restoration themselves and aren't expecting to use someone elses and then get sent the wrong one not knowing.

Has Kino addressed if this will be the uncut version that Twilight Time released even though they listed as the PG US cut?

How long is the uncut version? This is listed as a 100 minute cut (yes, a PG version):

From Dvdcompare.
1 .) PG-rated US cut
The Indian squaw rape scene has the woman wrapped in a blanket; also missing is the scene where the Indian squaw is forcibly stripped. It also has heavy cuts to the scene, where the old man is being burnt (at approx 59:00 min) and his subsequent mercy killing by Jack Palance. The killing of Simon Oakland with a rock was trimmed, along with a close up of a bullet wound to Ralph Waite's hand.

2.) International version
The woman is totally naked and there are no further cuts to violence listed above.

I received my copy today. Took a quick glimpse and I think it's a solid upgrade over the master that Twilight Time used:

Simon Oakland has a black hat in the film, so it's not him.

With the horse and the rifle that's Waite alright, soon to become America's #1 TV dad on The Waltons.
