You could always put a plank of wood inside each shelve, so the Blu rays sit at the front and don't slide back.

That's what I would do.

I have the same type bookshelf. I just ended up stacking more blus in the extra space. As you can see in my collection, I have a few stackers.

I would use the bookcase for blu-rays temporarily, until you get a media rack. Bookcases, are build the exact dimensions to fit hardcover books. Any other materials would be too small..You need a media rack, which are made specially for DVDs, CDS, and blu-rays. There are many different types, and styles you can choose from.

+1. I did that until I bought the shelves in my gallery and it was a pain because I'd have so much extra space that couldn't be utilized properly.

Oh yes, I've been there too. My bookcase is now being used for books. Those blu-rays, and DVDs had to go.

You can invest in some building blocks to stick behind them.

My collection used to be on bookshelves, but I found it wasn't practical, there was just so much wasted space. I agree with what others have said regarding media shelves, they are specifically designed for media collections, and free up so much more space.

To the OP, if you have spare blank blu-ray cases, just put them at the back.

Whatever you decide to do, just make sure you don't front load your bookcase too much if it is really tall. Make sure it's on an even surface and anchored to the wall if possible. I've had an 8' tall bookcase tumble because of front loading like you describe.
