Default Should PS3 be able to play HDTV recorded in TS, TP, and MTS format? (it does)

Should PS3 be able to play HDTV recorded in TS, TP, and MTS format?

My PS3 doesnt' even show these files on the external hard drive that
I plugged in... but it has no problem playing M2T HDTV files.

I realize I can just convert these files... but I have over 680GB of them
and it will probably take a month to convert all of them...

Any advice appreciated....

EDIT: now I feel like an idiot. I did a little search and found the answer.
Now all files with TS, TP, and MTS extension play beautifually. The only
thing I had to do was to rename all the file extensions to *.MPG
The PS3 just had to be tricked into this.... I sure hope Sony corrects this
in the next firmware..(maybe v2.30, along with DTS-HD MA? )

Did you press triangle over your external drive and Display all?

Yes, I did press the triangle... those files just don't show up. (but *.M2T
and all other video files show up without any problems...)

There are alot of container files out there, I assume at one point Sony
will have them all nicked... ill be honest never heard of TS, TP, and MTS
containers..

I Have about 200GBs of TS, TP files
Those are the typical extensions (most common) for HD files.
Thanks I'll try to rename to MPG to see if it works
Most of them do not work!

Same here... most of my HDTV recorded files come in TS and TP files.
(especially a lot of Japanese and German HDTV demo videos)

After I renamed them to *.MPG, nearly all have played fine on the PS3.
(but some stubborn ones still won't play... but that's only about 10% of
them)

MPEG4 is for disc formats like Blu Ray. MP4 still is new so thats why a lot of BD is still Mpeg2. MP4 and H264 are almost synonomous.
If we had ease to make Mp4 broadcasts it would be 1080p
