Default The Future of Movies: 3-D or IMAX

Which do you think will reign in the future of movies

The 3D craze or IMAX

I think IMAX will reign in the end because, in my opinion its a better expirience and you dont need special glasses or if you move your head the picture gets distorted

Im talking about in theater and in home market

I prefer IMAX, but 3D will be the more prevalent future Cinema experience. 3D only requires Digital Projection, which most theaters will be switching to if they haven't already like AMC. Plus, IMAX cameras are VERY difficult to shoot with and much more costly.

Not to mention the logistical issue of conforming theaters to IMAX screen specifications, which need to be planned in the development of a new theater, or else would usually require a remodel of a current structure to adjust to the added height of the screen.

I heard somewhere that IMAX developers were working on making a camera that was more efficient for film productions. The issues being the weight of the camera and noise that it generates makes recording dialogue nearly impossible.

Neither is strong or attractive enough to ever become mainstream (imo).

And the drag it creates on this Indy car.

I said other for the reason that there are more and more IMAX 3D movies being released. So it's like they are both blazing away.

neither-- IMAX will continue to be for special screenings only for
"event" movies.

3-D has been attempted many times in the past-- it's a fad that
historically is washed up within 5 years....

Imax will not succeed for many years...Cost. With attendance down...joblessness at all time highs...there won't be enough theaters to show it.

3D is a fad...bothers to many with headaches and eyestrain so it won't keep.

I would love for Imax to make it...but I think it will be years, 5+ before that happens.

Niether it will for the msot part stay the way it is, with some films having 3d, most without. Also I think this shotting part of a film in imax craze will die out very quickly. Of course films will continue to be shwon in imax, but i'm reffering to films shot using imax cameras, the 2.39:1 jist provides to nice of an image to change back to a more boxy image that imax is.

I would love it if there were more IMAX theaters and more movies filmed on IMAX. It truly is an amazing experience, almost complete envelopment into the film. The sound is incredibly better than regular theaters and I love that the screen takes up my entire line of sight.
