Default Projector Dilemma

So i bought an Epson 3020 projector last week and everything works great, but when i inspected the lens i noticed that it has a few minor scratches on it. They are not noticeable when the projector is on. I have the opportunity to exchange it but i will have to wait a week or so for the store to order me a new one in. Are the scratches that big of deal? i am just worried about getting a new one as the picture is great on mine and the convergence is very good. Should i risk getting a new one for something as minor as a few not noticeable scratches on the lens?? any input would be much appreciated.

Well....you sound like that you don't see the scratches being a big deal and the projector works great, right? BUT.....you know the scratches are there and that they should not be. Sounds like you are at war between risk and piece of mind. Personally...piece of mind gets the nod every time. I would not settle for a product that you paid good $$ for and have it not look like its suppose to. Bought my 3020 last Thanksgiving. Love it and there are no scratches on the lens....nor should there be. If you bought it used or refurbished, okay. Kind of expect that it may have some physical flaws to it. But not when you buy it brand new. Would you pay for a car at regular retail price if it had dents or scratches on it??

I say exchange it. You should not have to settle. Yes....it is inconvient for you and it sucks you have to wait. But....you will feel more at ease when you get the replacement knowing that the scratches are no longer on your lens. Photogs don't want scratches on their lens....why should you? Good luck.

I agree with Taygan! If you purchased it NEW....It should be flawless!!! Order the new one....and keep using the scratched one until the new one arrives!! It's a win-win situation!

So i got the new projector and the lens was perfect out of the box, but i noticed that whenever a scene in a movie shifts from light to dark it is visible that the projector is getting darker or brighter? i believe i noticed this with my old 3020 as well.

I was just wondering if it is normal to be able to see the projector getting brighter or darker, i assume that this may have something to do with the auto iris? as when it happens i can hear the iris working if the volume is low enough. Any help is much appreciated
