Default Hammer Horror Blus

Can anybody come up with a list of Hammer films released on blu in North America or region free? I heard Hammer was supposed to release a boxed set but that never happened.

Millenium Entertainment should be releasing some Hammer films on Blu-Ray. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=216009

Synapse has the rights to Hands of the Ripper and Countess Dracula, but the wait has been unbearable.

I blind-bought the first 2 and did not really enjoy them. Didn't learn a lesson because I just blind-bought Vampire Lovers and probably won't like it either. I don't give up easily, though, which is why I decided to try one more Hammer horror flick with VL before I throw in the towel permanently. If I can sit through the fake-looking sets, orange blood and overacting and enjoy it just a bit then there's hope

Sorry you werent into them. I enjoy them..just period pieces and when Im in the right mood to watch them I will. They arent movies you can watch any ol time, for me I have to be in the urge to watch them, the right mood
I am also anxiously awaiting Hands of the Ripper
Now, I did think Countess Dracula was boring after I rented it, & watched on a cool dark Saturday night
As for Millennium after their DVD reviews Im a little bit skeptical of their Blu Ray quality.

I really thought the quality of the releases of Twins of Evil and Vampire Circus were exceptional. Good PQ and AQ and a nice set of extras. As far as cheap looking blood and overacting. Most Hammer Films have a element of this though in most cases Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee always do a bang up job. Peter Cushing especially does a great job in Twins of Evil IMO. His portrayal of a blood thirsty religious zealot out to destroy evil is very believable. He's over the top a little only because his character is written that way.

Another Hammer NA release is:
The Skull / The Man Who Could Cheat Death
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-S...Blu-ray/23078/
Though The Skull is a Amicus production, A knock off company like Hammer. Though IMO it is the better movie here.

The Skull has some good acting from Lee and Cushing. Though the end with the floating skull is kind of funny because you can see the strings. lol.

Also Paranoiac. It isn't a North American release, but is region free.

I knew there was one I was forgetting about. The Man Who Cheated Death was definitely lesser Hammer, IMO. The Skull, on the other hand, was pretty good.

Amicus was more of a complement to Hammer than an outright knock-off. They had a similar look and pulled actors from the same talent pool, but where Hammer's films typically were presented with Gothic settings, Amicus's films were generally present-day. Amicus was also much better known for their anthology films like Tales from the Crypt or Asylum.

I love my Blu-ray of Twins of Evil. That is the ultimate guilty pleasure movie, bad special effect, Playmate twins, and all.

I've been meaning to order The Vampire Lovers, and will probably do so this month.

I've never paid particular attention to Vampire Circus, and the premise of that movie does not quicken my pulse as much, but I might give it a chance soon as well.

Vampire Circus is on Netflix if you want to give it a shot. It's a fun movie but seems to me more into Hammer Horror's psychadelic period.

Bad spfx in TWINS? Orange blood? Fake-looking sets? Good to know there are people out there that still don't know what they're talking about...

I personally don't remember any FX that were inherently bad in twins. The blood in all the Hammer films is a overly bright red though. All the sets looked fine. IMO the dark gothic sets and atmosphere of most of the Hammer movies is one of the main reasons I enjoy them so much.

Thanks so much, guys! I keep waiting for stuff like Curse of the Werewolf or Frankenstein Created Woman and that sort of thing. I wish there was just a big boxed set of the whole era.

You and me both. Hammer is one of the main reasons I got a region free player. Well that and all the Ealing Studio movies being released in the UK.
There has been a lot of restoration work done on their movies and some very nice Bluray releases of Hammer films in the past year.
