Canada Connectivity problem with my Yamaha surround system (YHT 196)

System looks and sounds great (when working)! Bought this system with the intention of hooking up region free blu-ray player. Have had nothing but bad luck and trouble as far as speaking wire connectivity is concerned.

After all speakers are connected, unit inexplicably shuts off. Upon rebooting receiver, unit readout says to check SP wires, even though all speakers appear to be working and sound is coming out of all of them.

Problem originated when we tried to hook up system ourselves. Weren't sure what to do so, we called in member of Geek Squad. Geek proceeded to connect system as required, and problem once again arose. Geek suggested receiver was defective and to seek out a replacement.

Followed Geek's instructions, replaced unit, are quite confident that unit is connected properly, yet problem is still ongoing. I really want to like this product and utilize it without having to give up on it.

Any advice??????
