It takes a series of bad cinema - that is so abundant in Bollywood - to truly appreciate a gem like "Dedh Ishqiya". I am not blown away by the movie but it's always exciting to see an inspired and unrestrained film to come along that doesn't feel compelled to work within the framework of commercial viability.
On the acting front, I actually thought Madhuri would be a distraction and hurt the film. But I am glad I was wrong. She holds out well among acting giants like Naseer and Vijay Raaz with her nuanced performance. And both Arshad and Huma, along with a talented support cast, contributes well to the overall film. In a nutshell, a really nice film that is a fitting follow up to the original Ishqiya! On the Blu-Ray front, I know the Shemaroo watermark issue has been discussed and condemned on these boards many times. And I agree with that. Outside of that issue, I thought the overall BD presentation - video and audio - was decent. I am not an expert by any means to qualify that statement from a technical viewpoint......but I thought the film's earthy color palette and restrained lighting, shows nicely in the Blu-Ray and does not distract the viewer from the film itself. Take my entire review with a grain of salt but I thought it was a good film and transferred nicely on BD ![]() |
