Let me jump in before your stalker has a chance to.

Is this for the PS3 or a PC? or is it a USB device you want to plug into the PS3?

There are cables that will connect IDE hard drives to SATA (and vice versa) as I just had to get one for my tower when I bought a 2TB hard drive.

I do not know of anything to do that with externals though.

I don't think that will work. The drive inside the enclosure is likely already SATA, but the PS3 requires a 2.5 inch notebook-type SATA hard drive. Even if it has a 2.5 drive inside the enclosure, you will invalidate the warranty by removing it and using the drive elsewhere.

Here's an example http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822236348 of what you need.

I don't think you'll find a 2.5 inch drive in a capacity larger than 2TB right now, and Seagate only goes to 1TB.

The max size for a hard drive that the PS3 will recognize is 2 TB the rest would just be wasted space.

Yeah that won't work. You need a laptop hard drive, and even then it has to be not only a 2.5" one but it has to be a specific width/height or whatever. Some are too thick to fit into the Ps3, despite still being a 2.5" laptop drive.

I didn't know a 2TB one would work. I have a 1TB one in mine. Might have to investigate for that 2TB one. :-)

Actually you don't need a laptop drive. There is a product out there to get around this with a regular external inclosure for a hard drive but I'm not sure it would work with a usb external hardrive.

For the OP here is the product in question:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Slim-PS3...437#vi-content

That won't work for the super slim though and I'm pretty sure that's what you have.

I'll be back after I find some more info.

EDIT: There dosesn
t seen to be a cable out there to run a usb into a sata. Only a sata into usb.

Do you have a link to a 2TB hard drive that would work in a PS3 Slim? Not a Super slim but a regular slim.

Thanks.

I've actually read varying reports on weather the max is 1.5 TB's or 2 TB's but most people seen to say 2 is the max.

All the 2 TB laptop drives are too thick(15mm vs the standard 9.5mm) to fit into the PS3 although I'm pretty sure I read it can be accomplished by removing the hard drive tray and just putting in the drive but personally I wouldn't risk it.

I don't shop on eBay. I just wanted a larger hdd. Since 500 isn't big enough for me. Since I have around 13gb of music alone. I have plenty of more CDs to install.

^ this is what I did yesterday.

I also have 500gb external USB drive filled with movies connected.

So 1tb for games, DLC, and PSN DRM media and 500gbs for non DRM media.
