Default Is supernatural possession horror getting tiring?

It seems like they release five or six of these movies every few months. And they seem to outfight slasher movies in theatrical releases. While there are some original supernatural horror movies, most seem to repeat the sane routine: Girl or woman gets possessed, we see a scenr wherebthe girl is possessed and screams like she is a bear, and then the exorcists come.

I know we get a couple a year but they are not released often enough for me to notice them enough to get tired of it.

I often avoid them like the plague, although Ouija: Origin of Evil was surprisingly good.

Not quite as tiresome as comic book/superhero movies.

I don't believe that any genre or sub-genre can get tired if the story is original and done right. That is the tricky part. I'm not a big fan of the supernatural possession horror sub-genre anyways.

I mostly just skip them. There are better horror themes that aren't as overused, like zombies or vampires.

Not for me.

Matter of fact, I wouldn't mind another found footage possession horror movie.

As for the question the OP asked. Yes, I've been sick of them for quite a few years now. I'm so wanting more unique horror films to come out, but until they start adapting stories from Clive Barker and H.P. Lovecraft (with decent budgets so they get an actual theatrical release) that won't happen often.

At least The Rite and Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist, while not great movies, tried something different by putting the focus more on faith and redemption.

I still wish we had decent closure to Paranormal Activity and not the BS they gave us. Note I didn't watch the dimensions one but after PA4 we didn't get much of a finish of that arch.

The Hollywood version of it is. Conjuring 2 was a miserable experience.

No, they are not getting tiring. They were tiring a long time ago, and have since become excruciating.

A moratorium on ghost films/found footage films/supernatural horror films/possession films for a while would not be out of order.

Possession films, like found footage, vampires, zombies etc. is really only tiring if done poorly. A poorly done film is what's truly tiring.

The possession scenes with Eva Green in Penny Dreadful were pretty riveting for me, she was scary good in those.

Those scenes were good but the entire show wasn't focused on that aspect. With a movie solely about possessions it gets old after having seen so many. Basically, there were enough aspects and other characters to focus on in Penny Dreadful that the possession scenes were easier to deal with.

Thats true. In reality, TV shows can get away with cliches more often then film. Walking Dead was a huge success at pinnacle of the tired zombie craze and held onto that success when the zombie craze was on its way out... it is still plenty successful too although it seems like they are starting to fumble the ball with their choice of direction.

That's like one of the rare exceptions, though.

Everything else is "Ohhhh, our house is haunted. We're going to scream at CGI ghosts before we call in demonologists and exorcise our home."
