Cool idea... though I'm not buying the 'latest trend' part... I got into Front Projection almost 6 years ago and a big reason was to experience a true 2.35 experience at home... 5 years after that I'm back to 1.78

I'd say a an "ultra-wide" (2.35:1) screen is worth it if you are into larger budget films and PC games, especially since you can adjust the field of view (what you see) on many PC games. Not so much worth it with broadcast TV, some films and console games of course. If I were to make another home theater, I'd go with a scope screen. I think "Scope" sounds alot better than "Ultrawide" to me.

I can't ever imagine going back to a 16:9 screen after having my scope set-up. The majority of films seem to be in the scope format now so enjoying them in a larger size than I could with a 16:9 screen just makes more sense. It is the latest thing in the sense of how simple it is to go to a scope screen now. With several projectors having lens memory it makes it easy.

I also have it made though as I have a 2nd smaller theater room with a 106" 16:9 screen that I can enjoy my sports on or any HDTV since it fills that screen perfectly.

If you check out my setup I have quite literally maxed the width of my room, so to go 2.35 would have meant sacrificing the size of my 1.78 content and personally I don't see the point of having to make any sacrifices. If you let your room dictate your screen ratio you will always maximize your experience and that is now what I think it is all about.

When I put on a movie like the Avengers (1.85) or Avatar (1.78) I can actually watch it at a 122" width rather than the 94" width I'd be stuck with if I had gone 2.35.

Well I do agree going that route if you have a more narrow room. My smaller theater room is the same way. The room is only 10' wide & I have a 106" 16x9 screen. That's why I love the new larger room since I was able to put a 148" scope screen there & I now have the best of both worlds!

I prefer 16:9 for 3d movies and get more immersed into the movie. I get disappointed when a 3d movie is not shot in 16:9.
