I screened this last night and enjoyed the hell out of it. It was totally different from what I expected. The sales pitch compares it to Bava's Black Sunday, but this film bears very little resemblance to Black Sunday, save for the fact that it stars Barbara Steele and the monster is a long dead witch. Instead of gothic horror, this film is a smorgasbord of different kinds of entertainment... from violent monster movie, to a rape scene that could be right out of a low budget "roughie", to balls out slapstick comedy. After the setup with Barbara Steele and a great Eastern European schlub character actor, the film totally changes course, veering back and forth between totally different moods. By the end, it's extremely goofy like a Benny Hill show episode as the Transylvanian Keystone cops and a cartoony professor in a canary yellow Model T race around back roads at 90 miles an hour.
The blu-ray looked and sounded very good, but the volume level was a bit low. I didn't watch the supplements. But with the reasonable price at Amazon, it's worth picking up. I grabbed four Raro titles the other day. I look forward to the rest. Last edited by Scottie; 03-19-2017 at 01:30 AM. Reason: Wrong film title |

Oh thank god. I was reading his post thinking "That's not the Night of the Blood Beast I remember." I was wondering if I was going senile.

In the opening post for this thread, I think that Bigshot gives a good description of the movie --
The only difference for me is that I think this film is a total mess and I could only recommend it to someone wanting to see all 3 of the directorial efforts of Michael Reeves. After watching this film, I feel that Reeves was incredibly fortunate to go on to make "The Sorcerers" with Boris Karloff and (his masterpiece) "Witchfinder General" (aka, The Conqueror Worm) with Vincent Price. Yes, Revenge of the Blood Beast (aka She Beast aka The She Beast) was totally different from what I expected, and the end chase sequence was like an Eric Von Zipper chase sequence from the AIP Beach Party movies. Very good widescreen color transfer; I wish "The Sorcerers" would get this kind of upgrade. |

This is the first time I've seen it so I'm not even sure, was the movie ever in black and white? The box shows black and white stills and says it is black and white but then the movie itself is in full color so I was very confused.

The review of Revenge of the Blood Beast at dvddrive-in.com names a number of errors on the box.

Just loaded up my copy.
I'm a bit shocked this got as high a review for video quality as it did, it's one of those infamous Italian transfers slathered in scanner noise. Very watchable though despite this but still flawed. |
