Howard Inlet has a successful career as one of the most brilliant advertising executives New York City has ever seen. However, when he faces a deeply tragic occurrence, his entire world shatters. Howard begins to pull away from his former life, so his friends and work colleagues create a plan that will help him to face his grief and rise above it. They end up meeting three very mysterious people, and this encounter has the potential to change Howard's life. If Howard can manage to confront and overcome his tragic past, he may be able to start living his life again.

I love Keira Knightley more than any other actresss alive today, but this will be the first movie of hers I won't watch. someone at work told me the twist and I thought she was joking. It sounds so ridiculous that I can't even imagine how it was allowed. Shame. Great cast.

There are three and a half twists in this, I saw it with a free ticket.

After you get over the first twist and realize the second, its pretty decent then the third twist happens and it all just falls apart. The half twist can be easily predicted... and doesn't hurt the film but is very cliche.

For those who want it:

Twist 1: They are actors hired by Whit (Norton) to help Howard (Smith) by going into Howard's fantasy. They will be digitally erased after confronting Howard to expose his mental break.

Twist 2: Oh wait, they are not actors after all. Death reveals a personal secret about Scott (Péna). Love knows about Whit's daughter which he never told her about. Time speaks to Claire (Winslet) about family and wanting a baby.

In the way the "actors" interact with Howard, it would be impossible to delete or do digital removal.

Twist 3: Howard stands outside a support group run by Madeleine (Harris) frequently and finally decides to talk to her after meeting the trio. They form a friendship and discuss their lives. Howard shuts down but Madeleine is open and says her ex-husband wrote her a final letter.

Turns out Madeleine's ex IS Howard and on Christmas Eve, he visits her. Note: there is no setup or dialogue to explain how he knows where she lives prior to that reveal. She has been crying watching a video which is Howard dancing with their child in the park. She pushes Howard to finally open up, cry, and say their daughter's name.

They reconnect and are seen walking in Central Park together. I am not making this up or joking

The half twist: Death was there at there at their child's death in the hospital. Death is the one who tells Madeleine about the collateral beauty.

The writing is very weak and emotional moments have very little impact. There are a lot of scenes inducing groaning, confusion, and exhibiting laziness. The whole speech that encompasses the title does not make any sense. I'm glad I didn't pay for the ticket for this one.

I can't imagine actually watching this whole film. Sitting through the trailer at multiple screenings has been excruciating enough.

Anytime a movie gets savaged this badly, I have a morbid curiosity to actually watch it and see if it's really that bad. But I can wait til it's on HBO.

I love when big stars are in a heaping pile of crap. Maybe it'll humble them? Either way, 24 on Metacritic makes Assassin's Creed and Passengers look like rock star films.

Even though neither were that great they were masterpieces compared to this.

I enjoyed Passengers greatly and had fun in Assassins Creed, Collateral Beauty just felt messy and extremely underwhelming.

Probably because they heard how much of a laughing stock this film is and knew it probably won't even sell well on Blu-Ray.
