Default How do you choose which movie to watch?

I can spend many minutes trying to decide which movie i want to watch on any given night because I enjoy all my movies. It drives me nuts. I use to just watch in the order in which I bought a movie but now I lost track. How do you decide which blu-ray to watch?

I keep all my unwatched BDs slightly pulled out to quickly distinguish. So I usually scan those, if I don't ready have something in mind.

I do the same, but to cut down on unnecessary buys, I try to make sure the film I buy I'll be able to watch the night I buy it.

However, I must of spent about 100 - 200 pounds of my student loan on blu's this year, so I've got quite a few films I never got around to watching due to work load...

21 Jump Street (free Moviextras prize)
Boogie Nights
The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Gone Baby Gone
An Idiot Abroad: Series 3 (watched one episode and found it crap, luckily it was a present from my Brother)
Lolita
Barry Lyndon
Eyes Wide Shut
Synecdoche, New York
American Gangster
Public Enemies

I probably have over 50 blu rays still in their shrink wrap. Sometimes I question myself, as to why I keep purchasing when I can't keep up with what I got.
But to answer your question, I usually just grab any sealed blu ray without giving it much thought. Figured I will get around to watching them all eventually, so the order its in doesn't matter to me.

I really have no rhyme or reason as to my selection. I just look at my discs and whatever tickles my fancy at that moment I pop in. Other times I decide by the length of the film, if it is getting a bit late, so I won't stay up because once I put one in I usually watch it till the end, no matter how many times I have seen it.

Myself, my sons and guests (if any) will go pull several picks out halfway from the shelve. After everyone has about 5 options pulled, we take turns one at a time eliminating a movie until the amicable choice remains. We've always done it this way unless it's a big release that we've just got.

Same here.

Unless I have a specific reason to watch a movie (i.e. holiday related, a sequel coming out soon, a celeb recently died, ect.), I usually just look at one particular "cubicle" in my media racks and just watch the movies in it from left to right.

Depending on my mood, I pick a movie from a certain genre. But most of the time, I can't decide what to watch and before I know it, I spend an hour in front of my shelf! Usually, it's close to dinner/bed time and I end up postponing the movie.
Sometimes when I'm watching a movie, I keep wondering if I should've picked something else or if I'm really enjoying something, I wonder if I should've saved the current movie for another day or if I have anything to top my current movie for the next day.

These days, I'm watching more on HBO than my BD collection as I don't waste time pondering over all that ^ .

aside from the xmas/b'day potential influx of new blu's, I watch all my new release right away so never have an 'unwatched' pile usually.

as for choosing what to watch, I often go in phases or tend to re-watch new blu's over the first few weeks/months of owning it (I'm only just calming down off a recent Titanic/Avengers stint. must have watched them at LEAST once a week since release, up until about a month ago. lol).
Sometimes, I'll get a sudden urge to watch a movie ie Kiss Kiss Band Bang last night after talking to a friend about it, and sometimes I'll wacht a 'set' of movies, ie Any sequels (Resident Evil, POTC etc), or the Marvel movies, Kevin Smith movies, Tarentio etc, working my way through them each night (so the next few choices are already made )

Then maybe 50% of the time I'm stuck staring at my collection for ages until something jumps into my hand. lol

Uk only have Netflix streaming and I tend to use that for TV shows more than movies.

Bit of a snob when it comes to Movie quality

It depends. But usually I start by taking a look at my unwatched shelf, if there is something there that fits the mood I am in (no use watching a comedy when you want horror) and the time I want (if you have 2 hours then a 3hour film won’t do) I go with it. As soon as there is something good no need to look further. If not then that usually means I am in the mood for a particular genre so I just go to that section and go with the film I feel like.

Top priority: unseen movies, I take genre/director into consideration when narrowing down the list.

I like a lot of the suggestions here. Simple and quick. No back and forth mind games. Haha.

What about trilogies, quad-trilogy's, etc.?! They always take a backseat to my first pick's because I have the nerve to want to watch them in sequence. Luckily last night it only took me a few second to decide between Thor and Inception. I've been riding the Marvel Avenger's series the past two weeks and figured I'd mix it up with Inception.

I just kind of...choose. I know what genre I'm in the mood for, and I just decide from there, really. There doesn't seem to be rhyme or reason behind it
