Warner Bros Salem's Lot (1979)

Source: WB press site

Original info:
[Show spoiler]
Wanna play a guessing game?

From WB press site:

Quote:
Stephen King

Franchise: Catalog
Street Date: 9/20/2016

THREE STEPHEN KING CLASSICS FOR THE FIRST TIME ON BLU-RAY™

NEW 2016 HD MASTERS CREATED ESPECIALLY FOR THESE BLU-RAY PREMIERES
One of them is certainly IT, the other two likely Salem's Lot and Cat's Eye.

All will be revealed in just a few hours! And apologies upfront, if you find this post inappropriate in any way.

Quote:
Synopsis:

A New England village is plagued by vampirism in this blood-curdling shocker based on the bestselling novel by Stephen King, directed by Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist) and starring David Soul, James Mason, Bonnie Bedelia, Lew Ayres and Ed Flanders.

Sinister events bring together a writer fascinated with an old hilltop house, a suave antiques dealer whose expertise goes beyond bric-a-brac and the dealer's mysterious, pale-skinned partner.

New HD masters? **** yes! I figured they were just gonna slap the DVD-era master of It onto the Blu-ray (except in HD, obviously). This gives me hope that we'll get the complete version, as opposed to the slightly truncated one on the DVD.

I'm hoping the third title is The Stand.

I'll go nuts if it's The Stand.

Been waiting, like many, for years.

Stephen King's It has already been announced with an October 4th release date, so I would assume that's not one of the movies.

Disclaimer: I have no idea which titles WB has the rights to.

The Stand would really make my day. Not sure if the SFX would hold up that well in HD, but that is one of my all-time favorite King stories and it deserves the Blu-Ray treatment.

I'm also really hopeful they'll release Storm of the Century. I remember being blown away by that one back in the day.

However, I'm not sure if they're really "classics" in the sense of classic films. Or do they mean classic King stories? I imagine Salem's Lot would qualify as a "classic." Maybe Silver Bullet too?

Can't be Maximum Overdrive... Or can it?!

I always see this DVD in the Walmart $3.74 bin.

Assuming it's not one of the Blus that's announced, is the movie really that good and worth getting?

Salem's Lot and Cat's Eye for sure, and maybe Dolores Claiborne - all are WB.

Storm of the Century is terrific, and, IMO, much better than The Stand. But neither are with WB, I'm afraid.

Cat's Eye, Salem's lot, and The Dead Zone would be my guess.

I think it's a must. I've always felt it was a compelling, gripping story, especially with the finale, which is very bleak and evocative. Colm Feore is awesome and the character he plays is one of my favorite villains. It's been years since last saw it, but I remember thinking it's a good-quality movie too--nowhere near as cheesy and cheap as The Langoliers or Rose Red or anything like that. SotC might even be my favorite King miniseries (next to The Stand and It).

For that price, I think it's a no-brainer.

Would The Dead Zone still be released through WB through the Paramount deal or would it be released by theirselves? I know it's been released in other countries on Blu-ray disc but I'm still hoping for a more substantial option.

The Dead Zone would be great, but it's a Paramount title, so I don't know...If they extended the distribution deal with them, then it's a possibility.

I thought this was a box set which is why I mentioned It, but since these are individual releases, I'm substituting Cat's Eye for it.
