DTS MA audio - Blu-ray Forum

I heard an update for the ps3 is coming out around christmas that will enable the ps3 to decode DTS MA? Can anyone confirm this??

Everything regarding DTS MA for the PS3 is still speculation and rumor at this point.

Lets hope it is soon. I wish sony would at least give a hint about it.

I don't think that the bitstreaming of DTS-MA will ever happen and I'm curious if it will ever be able to decode and send out via LPCM.... I don't know but maybe the decoding of DTS-MA is a hardware thing and can't be fixed by a firmware update?? Again, I don't know one way or the other as I'm not that in depth with the new audio technologies but I would be surprised to see a firmware update allowing the PS3 to do anything with DTS-MA in the near future....

In theory the PS3 has more than enough processing power to do the decoding. It's definitely a firmware issue. I believe the only reason they have not unlocked this ability via firmware is to allow other Blu-ray manufacturers to step up to the plate and provide this ability directly in their players first, in order not to unfairly compete with them via the PS3.
