Default Big C fans??

I'm new here so I may have missed it or didn't search deep enough, but I didn't see a thread on The Big C. I watch very little tv but this is one show I will not miss and with the new season beginning soon, I wondered if there was any discussion on the show.

I just started watching it with my gf. Watched half of the season today and going to finish it off on Tuesday. Good so far.

I love the show. When it first started I didn't like it that much because the acting felt forced and it was too "quirky" for me. But after a couple episodes in it started to grow on me. I'm looking forward to it starting next week

Definitely one of the best season finales (if you don't at least get a tear in your eye at the last scene, there's something emotionally wrong with you lol)

Thank God, I thought I was the only one. A middle aged person going through a difficult time with humor isn't anything ground breaking, but it's tackled here with so much heart, and it's written so expertly well, and of course is acted so well that you can't help but be drawn into it. I didn't even know the second season would be coming, so seeing that it comes so soon is a very pleasant surprise.
And now I'm still wondering why the hell it didn't get a Blu-ray release? Two Golden Globe nominations (and Laura Linney completely deserving the one she won) should be enough for a release in high definition, one would think.

I was wondering the same thing. I figured since it got renewed pretty quickly that was a sign but I guess not. It seems like only certain shows on Showtime get BD releases.

It depends on the studio, not the network. The Big C is produced by Sony, and they don't do TV on BD as a rule.

Breaking Bad 1-3 and Justified 1 & 2 are both from Sony....

I more meant, it just seems like they're only doing certain shows in regards to popularity or audience. Not saying the networks call the shots of what shows get released.

The second season ended and overall superior over the strong first season and wow, I feel like it tore my heart out and stomped on it.

[Show spoiler]When Paul showed up when she was crossing the finish line, I didn't need Adam to tell me Paul was dead. He walked in and I just knew. I actually started tearing up. I hated Lee's death but the back to back passing of both her mole mate and the love of her life... wow.

When he walked closer to the gate I thought he was actually there. But I noticed he was kinda grabbing at his chest before. It may just be that between life and death situation and that's why he was there, just like her seeing Lee and Marlene. Either way, it broke my heart just like last seasons finale. I really hope nothing happens to him

I think it opens the door for a much more somber season three with a lot of dramatic possibilities with Cathy, Adam, and Sean. I’m hoping Paul does manage to survive but I don’t think The Big C is that kind of show; it isn’t Weeds where the characters manage to figure something out or fortunately something bails them out. I love that the show is, for the most part, grounded in reality (when we’re not having funerals for fetuses).

Very true, but nothing can really bail you out of a heart attack. It will change the show and characters a lot if he does, which again is reality but killing main characters sucks. And Rebecca is a basket case to say the least lol

Does anyone know that Cathy would see/talk to Marlene?

I don't think so, at least I don't recall anyone. And I was so glad when the story with Rebecca was over. I love Cynthia Nixon but that character irritated me.

I'm curious to see where Andrea goes next season.

The funeral for baby Cathy was amusing... I'll concede to that.

AAAAARGH! I accidentally opened this thread while having yet to see the final episode, and while I didn't read that Paul died, I read that something happened to him. So when he grasped his heart after calling out that c*nt at that party, I knew he was done for. But the way it was done was something else. Incredible. I do hope Paul will be back as a figment of Cathy's imagination, since Oliver Platt is way too good of an actor to just be let go like that.

Let's bump this thread up.

This season was a huge step down in quality. Such a shame. But I'll admit to almost loving the finale. I didn't at first but the more I think about it the more fitting it is. It was kind of beautiful and made Cathy's actions more understandable. It helps us understand more where she's coming from. I want to see it come back for a final season and for it to return in top form (would be unfortunate not to have one more great season). I want it to go out on a high note. Will definitely be disappointed if it isn't renewed, though if it isn't I could certainly live with this ending. Cathy hasn't been very happy, and now she's finally free.

I'm surprised it hasn't been renewed yet.

I also didn't think the season was as good as the previous seasons, and the finale wasn't extremely emotional either. Plus, Weeds was on at the time of seasons 1 and 2 so I was enjoying it more in comparison. Since Nurse Jackie was on I enjoyed that much more.

But if it does (hopefully) get renewed it'll be interesting to see where the stories go.

I too am surprised it hasn't been yet. Ratings weren't too far behind Nurse Jackie and definitely not near where United States of Tara was when that was canceled so hopefully this bodes well for them giving us fans one final season. I'm nervous about its prospects though.

This season has been awful, in my opinion.
It seems you're perfectly able to write someone out of a heart attack, and that alone made the show jump the shark for me. Plus Cathy suddenly changing her entire persona (along with her telling her husband died) just to drink all day in a bar? What the hell? And Ababu? And Adam suddenly turning into an almost evangelical Christian?
The first season featured some of the best writing I've seen on television. The second season was already a bit weaker (though featured enough moments to be heartwarming) but the last season was just a piece of crap where all the characters were just annoying. Maybe apart from Shawn. I don't know what the hell happened, but I hope that they can do whatever is needed to be done (at this point, I'm actually hoping that they say last season was all just a dream) and keep the writing on the same consistent level of the first season.
