Anyway...

I loved this movie when I saw it at the theater earlier this evening. Here's my review from the Movies section of the forum...


After capturing a research probe that has returned from Mars with soil samples, the six-member crew of the International Space Station analyzes the findings and discovers concrete evidence of extraterrestrial life. Unfortunately for them, benevolent interplanetary relations are not particularly high on this alien organism's priority list.

Life is basically an assortment of talented A-list actors slumming in a scrappy B-movie monster flick, and I loved every minute of it. I was initially apprehensive about this film, because the trailers, the all-star cast, and the general vibe of the promotional ads had me worried that it would be some watered-down cautionary sci-fi inspirational message story, but Life sidesteps all of that foolishness and goes straight for the jugular with some glorious grindhouse horror.

If you don't like slimy creatures, then this may not be the best movie for you. If you are afraid of claustrophobic settings, then this may not be the best movie for you. If the news stories about the Ebola virus and flesh-eating bacteria make you nervous, then this may not be the best movie for you. If you are terrified of drowning, then this may not be the best movie for you. If you are squeamish in general, then this may not be the best movie for you. If you tend to become overly attached to good characters who are played by your favorite actors, then this may not be the best movie for you. In fact, if you only seek out optimistic feel-good cinema, then this may not be the best movie for you. If, however, you have a soft spot for intense throwaway movies that conjure happy memories of browsing through the horror section in the moldy back room of your neighborhood VHS rental store during the 1980s, then you could do a lot worse. This movie is not as creative or awesome as Ridley Scott's Alien, and the intelligent scientist characters in this movie do not always behave in intelligent scientific ways, but that comes with the territory with regard to this type of cinematic fare. For me, Life is the outer space equivalent of the two 1989 underseas horror films, DeepStar Six and Leviathan, and I mean that as a glowing recommendation.

Great movie, but I'm not paying 34 dollars for it. I'm sure it will drop before release date.

I have to second Owl's praise. This was the most fun I've had at the theater this year. There isn't anything groundbreaking or original going on here, but it's all done so slickly and executed so well that it doesn't really matter. A great cast takes so-so material and really spins it into gold. Camera work, special effects, and sound mixing are A+. And it's one of those rare new films that has rewatchability for me.

I didn't necessarily mind the content itself, but the way the movie handled it was done very poorly.

Saw it this afternoon. Liked it very much. Surprisingly, the only negative for me, was Calvin. I didn't find him scary at all. But man, what a messed up ending! Messed up in a good way.

Still, I'll add it to my collection.

I'm still waiting to see this in theaters.
I guess I missed it.
Saw trailers for when it was COMING to theaters, but then it vanished from existence.

It should be released on Blu this month. Not June.
Even Logan is coming out on Blu this month
